break-in

How fast can I drive my wrx during the 1K break-in period. I am getting tired of driving 50-55 mph on the right lane of the freeway and getting dirty looks from folks driving past me. I am currently at 650 miles and losing my patience.

There isn't any speed restriction (unless you're spinning the engine faster than 4k rpm in 5th gear, which is still around 85 or 90mph). If you're on long drives, fluctuate your speed so your engine isn't staying at the same rpm for extended amounts of time. Otherwise, just keep it below 4k and don't run the car hard and you're good to go.

Find as much traffic as you can that will help with fluctuating your rpms. Really though just drive as much as possible, take the long way home, depending on where you live go somewhere you've never been before and just drive around until its familiar that way you know somewhere new and you are closer to being done with the torture that is break in.

yeah, my 60-mile freeway commute turned into a 3+ hour backroad exploration during my breakin. Took less than a week.

Just think of it as your best friend's maturation time, and then afterwards you two can hang out and party like mf'ers.
