2.5L are they any good
I was wondering if you guys can help me out. I'm looking into purchasing a 1999 Impreza 5spd with 134000 km. I've asked around about the vehicle in the quality, and alot of them said that the 2.5 engine and drive line are very weak. They say there is alot of piston slap occuring, and that the engines are crap. Has this problem ever happen to your 2.5L engine. Also is there any other major problem with this model. I have a 98 rs with 70k on it. The engine runs fine, and a 99 has the sohc heads with a better torque band. My girlfriend has a 01 2.5 rs and it has a smoother power band than my car. The 98 has the dohc head and phase 1 block and crappy maf. The 99 has sohc heads phase 1 block and crappy maf later models of the 99 switched to phase 2 block i think. The 00-01 have sohc heads phase 2 block and better map system. My 98 doesn't come with a rear lsd, I forgot when it came from the factory with one. The drive line is fine as long as you don't dump the clutch on a high rpm. WIth the engine, i'm not sure about what problems the other years have, but the 98 had a headgasket problem that was recalled.
