15K service

$325 plus NY TAX for a 15K service???? is this right?
they gave me check list of what they do on a 15k service and like 90% of the stuff is all check this and that, and not really replace anything.....is it really neccessary??? as long as everything is running fine it should be ok right?

ow and in 4EAT when should the tranny fluid be replaced and to what ? regular or synthetic?

thanks anyone who makes me understand on what is REALLY involved in a 15k service.....

Look at the list of stuff they do. Most of it you can do yourself/ dont need to do. Such as check spark plugs, my dealer told me that the stock plugs are good for at least 50,000 miles in the WRX. The rear end & M/T fluid was super easy to change and cost me less than half of the dealers price and I got Mobil 1. Get the oil changed at Valvoline, its pretty inexpensive (little more than you would buy the oil and filter for) and they give you free fluid top offs and can get your tires filled whenever (below freezing out right now). Dealers just cost more in general. But if it makes you feel better to get it done at a Subaru service center. Our Hummer only gets work done to it from the Hummer dealer, I know I could do most of the work myself, but it makes me feel better that if somthing breaks b/c of fluid leak or such, I wont be responsible.

You could go to a ASE (ase or sae?? lol) certified mechanic and it will definitely be cheaper. My certified mechanic only charged me 175.

be careful if you do it yourself.. you may have warranty issues down the line....

my subie has never been to the dealer (bought it used), but i did the 15k (or whatever the mileage is) service on my gf's '00 Si. everything looked good. get to about 30k, rear brakes take a crap. sounded like you were running over small animals everytime you backed up. 2 different honda dealers would not cover it under warranty because the service was not done by a "factory authorized dealer".

Do it all yourself. I do. Keep all the receipts pertaining to anything with the car. My car has 22,500 miles and has never had Subaru service. It has only been to the dealer once for the clutch TSB, that's it. Brian
