(Where is the Impreza's) final assembly (location?)
final assembly
quick question.. did some research couldn't find anything about this..
2006 Impreza's final assembly is OTA, GUNMA JAPAN correct?
well my 2006 WRX is NEWPORT NEWS, VA.. I'm just curious because a number of WRX's I went to look at the white sticker on the rear passenger window states:
parts content 100% japan Engine/trans: Japan Final Assembly OTA GUNMA Japan.
I purchased my 06 with 5 miles on it and it was an internet sale.. so i never actually saw the sticker on my vehicle. But i did get the large window sticker and that stated the final assembly NEWPORT NEWS, VA..
I'm just wondering now if Subaru has different Impreza's being built differently as they come in the U.S. and if that, what are the changes if any.. or is based on the cars options?
thanks

Check your VIN number. The first number is country of origin. 1, 4 or 5 means US and J means Japan. My Legacy's VIN starts with 4, meaning it was from the US. My roommates bugeye starts with J because it was assembled in Japan.
And you can dig deeper. The 11th digit is supposedly a code for the actual plant of final assembly. I believe it is manufacturer specific and I couldn't find a chart online for Subaru's.
EDIT: I'm thinking about it, and Subaru's only US plant is in Indiana. Newport News is a port city, so they might have used the Port of Entry as the Final Assembly. I was under the impression that the WRX was still being built in Japan, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm just guessing.

Nothing wrong with cars built in America other than the American workers don't take nearly as much pride in their work as the Japanese.
In fact, it shows in every GM, Ford, and Chrysler vehicle built.
