Final assembly point of 2004 Impreza
Hey everyone, my dad wanted to drive my new 2004 Outback Sport and I went along with him for the ride. We were talking about some of the other cars I'd looked into before the Subaru and we talked about some of the quality control problems with some of them possibly occuring in final assembly. Then it dawned on us, we couldn't figure out where my Outback Sport was assembled. On the sticker, I could have sworn it said that the source of parts was 100% japanese but I don't have the full window sticker anymore(just the smaller one). I didn't see anything stamped on the window or door jams. The only hint as to anything regarding assembly was something about the Port of Kingston, RI. I doubt it was shipped into the east coast from Japan, so I'm guessing perhaps that is where it was assembled? I also remember that there is I think a Subaru/Isuzu assembly plant in Lafayette, IN(I've actually driven by it when I was at Purdue University). Is that the place of final assembly? I don't notice any QC problems with my car but I'm just really curious. Thanks for any info.

Thanks for the info. The RI thing is quite odd. Why it'd be imported to the eastcoast is beyond me. The Japan thing makes sense though, as usually cars (even foreign ones) that are assembled in the USA they always have a very obvious badge somewhere as if to make us feel patriotic
You spoke too soon. My 2000 Legacy Wagon clearly says it was built in Indiana; sticker on the inside of the trunk lid. Considering the Outback is a Legacy with a bumper kit and shocks, odds are good that it was made stateside as well...

My cousin works at the Subaru plant in Lafayette. He gets to see all the test mules too. Anyway, all Subarus sold in the U.S. except the WRX are built in the U.S. I'm not sure about the STi with the new 2.5 engine.

I would hope not, because you're wrong. Doing some research, you'll discover than the Impreza and Forester line is built in Japan, and the Outback, Legacy, and Baja USDM line is built in the US (Indiana).

I knew the Impreza was build it Japan, and I wasn't sure about the others. Should have known the Forester was also built over there, since it's based on the Impreza platform.

No No No!
Legacys, Outbacks and Bajas are built in Indiana.
Foresters and Imprezas (yes STi and WRX also) are built in Gunma.
