Is it an automatic? If so, manual mode will lock out first gear. The idea is to prevent wheelspin on slippery sufaces. I never used it when I had my '94 Legacy wagon.

You can probably find out what that is from the manuel. If you don't have the manuel, I think you can join the my subaru thing from subaru.com... from there you can download a manuel.

try to register at http://my.subaru.com/login/login.jsp and see if you can get a manuel. I doubt it since you are not in US. The easiest way for you is to just drive to an subaru dealer and ask them... I don't think they should charge you for asking how to use a button.

My mom had a 92 Legacy Sedan (Auto) and it had the same button. What it did was (supposedly) prevent the gears from shifting out of whatever you selected.

ie, hit manual button while in second or third, it won't downshift or upshift.

I say supposedly cause I never tried it. And thats just what my parents told me the button did. I never saw a value in that button over normal shifting.

It may be a first gear lock-out(starts in second gear) for use on ice/snow, slippery surfaces to help minimize wheelspin on a start from stop.
