What would you do?
I've been thinking about getting a car for about a year now and in this year I have saved $5,000. Im 19 and attending the local college and was wondering if this would be a good decision. I want to put a down payment on a used 00' or 01' impreza rs(when i eventually find one). I have my heart set on this car. Im starting to get a bit anxious.
I was also thinking of a car to full around with and learn on without having to worry about ruining my expensive baby(the impreza, if I go down that road). I was wondering.....
1. Should I put a down payment on a used RS and make payments with my current situation?
2. Buy another car(which im also interested to full around with) like a toyota supra(88-91 turbo), toyota mr2(91-95 turbo), mazda rx-7(88-91 turbo), or mitsubishi eclipse gsx (88-91)?
3. Or just keep saving and buy an RS some time when im more finacially stable?
What do you guys think I should do or recommend that I do, I will be happy to hear any suggestions or if anyone could relate to me and make some good points.
Thanks and sorry for it being so long.

Do you have a car now? If so, what is it? Do you know how to drive a stick? If so, then you can't possibly ruin a car by driving it normally.
I suggest that if you don't have a car now and if you know how to drive a stick, why not go for the WRX?
If you already have your mind set at a used car, I'm sure you can find a pretty good deal on a used WRX. It all depends if you have a job ofcourse. A job that can pay the notes and life's other necessities such as food and bills.
I say go for the WRX if money is not a problem when paying notes. Otherwise, I'm sure you'll be happy with an RS.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your response. I would like a WRX too. Right now I have a Ford Ranger which is a stick. Its a good car for me cause im a drummer but I really want a sports car that I can work on,and modify. I just moved so I don't have a job curentlly. Im looking but im busy getting organized in my new place.

I would get the used RS because you have your mind set on it already, and it won't be such a burden when it comes to payments in the future. Sure a new WRX is great but think about the payments, you'll have to work hard just to pay off the car which means no mods or whatever. So get the RS, have fun with it, you won't have to be worried about keeping it in perfect shape, it won't cost you an arm and a leg, and you can always save to get whatever sexy car is out in the future. Just my opinion...

I was in the same situation.
Buy a used L... the insurance on an RS is astronomical (even without tickets and a good student discount) compared to what the L is. Plus you can buy the L out right and then dump the money into mods.
My friend has an 00 Rs and I have a 98 L.. Learn to drive your L really well and put some money into some suspension / high yield low cost engine tricks and you'll be able to eat the ego driven RS punks.
(nothing personal guys!)
