What are the main differences between the engines in the Legacy GT and STi?

What are the main differences between the engines in the Legacy GT and STi?
Is it easilly tunable to 300 hp?

Allegedly it is, according to a friend who works at a Subaru tuning shop. Turbo-back and a reflash should take care of most of it.

Isn't the Legacy running a detuned STi motor? If so couldn't you just swap the legacy ecu for the STi ecu?

The detuning isn't in the ECU itself, it's in the TD04 (WRX) turbo, smaller intercooler, catted up-pipe, injectors, etc.

I figured it wouldnt be as simple as an ECU re flash or replacement. I imagine for about $5k you can get comparable power, in a mid size lux. That sounds pretty good, and Id take it over a g35 sedan...not a coupe though.

the legacy gt is running the forester xt motor with .5 more boost to get to 250 hp.

I would imagine someone who could tune with ECUtek or similar to Cobb (as they have done with the Forester XT) it wouldn't be hard to make significant gains in power.
