Turbo Upgrade?
Turbo Upgrade?
Ok, I drive a 2003 WRX, and was wondering, should I get a turbo upgrade? This one here is what I want to getTurbo . Will this add a ton of power do you think? I know it will, but how much? Or maybe should I get a bigger turbo?

What other mods do you have? A turbo upgrade is pointless on a stock car. With a turbo upgrade, if it is a fair sized upgrade, you will need fuel and engine management. But there are easier ways than a turbo upgrade if your car is stock. Telling people what you have on your car will make for an easier response.

Maybe I should Change this thread to "What should my first mod be?"

Yeah you should start with up/dp/exhaust and open up the exhaust a little. Starting with a turbo upgrade will just cause problems without anytime of management like fuel and timing and such. Once you get done with the exhaust I would probably start by getting some engine management like the Link, UTEC, etc. Just anything that you will be able to tune. Me personally would make my first mod suspension and tires/wheels. But if you are just looking for power do the exhaust system first.

that is the STi turbocharger, you will definitely kik some ***.
by the way, experts... if you get that turbocharger, you will need better fuel injectors, better intercooler, and what else do you need to make the WRX successfully assimiliate the STi turbocharger without any motor damage and problems... because i would only upgrade if i knew it would not hurt my car in anyway, please need professional advise.

You also need some kind of engine management. Yes fuel system is also needed. An intercooler only depending on how big of a turbo you are going to get. There are some simple equations to determining if an IC will remove the majority of the heat that is being produced from the turbo. If you start running too much boost you will need to upgrade the pistons, crank, con rods, etc because your compression ratio will be destroyed by running tons of boost. I am not sure what boost the ej20 is good to, but it probably isn't absurdly high.

Its also going to depend on your goals. Do you car about streetability? Remember generally the bigger the turbo the more lag. And you definitly need to upgrade your fuel system and engine managment if your going for a larger turbo.

You will need someway to deliver more fuel(bigger injectors, fuel rails, etc) and you will also need some way to control your timing, your boost, your A/F ratio, etc. There is a lot that goes into putting more boost into an engine(assuming you would like to keep the engine for a while.)
