turbo(i think problem)
When I drive my car I'm noticing a strange sound coming from the passenger-side AC vent. It gets louder the harder I step on the gas, so I'm thinking it's a problem with my turbo. The sound is hard to describe, but is almost like a fan that's rubbing. Or even like air moving...so I'm thinking I might have an vacuum leak somewhere. I've taken it back to the shop, ridden with the mechanic, and he tells me it's the normal sound of a turbo. I don't ever remember hearing this until after they worked on it, so I don't think they are correct. Anyone have any idea what this might be?

Thats the sound you're turbo makes. Learn to love it, most people do ;-p.
You obviously are abit confused, so let me help you out to understand. A turbocharger is bassicly two turbines mated together. One side is connected to the cars exhaust, which is what makes it spin (around 70,000rpms when the engines revved up). The other side is connected to the intake and blows the air into the engine under pressure (around 14psi for a stock WRX). The sound you hear is the sound of the the compressor side of the turbo blowing air into the intake and the air rushing through the intercooler/piping.
