i`ve got an old 2.0 turbo,(94) its in cracking condition but for some reason the sunroof sounds like its rubbing and creaking all the time. can anybody tell me if theres been any trouble with the rubber thats seals them to wear at all

 

well i know on legacys they have two drains that run from where the glass sits into the body, and down through into the inner fender well. if you were take off the plastic splash guard on both the ps, and ds and look downs towards the back you will see the drains. sometimes these will clogged on older cars and cause water to back into the sunroof. a good air nozzle put in the bottom of the drain, with the sun roof open, then blast away. that will clear anything out. but sometimes the gaskets do leak. as far as i remember a certain leg i worked on couldn't just replace the gasket. we ended up putting clear silicone around it. can't use it, but stops the leak and don't have pay for a new sunroof. thats my .02

thats ok. i`m glad 2 say it don`t leak at all, to be honest with u its as if the whole body rolls wrong, as if chassis and body twisting in a weird way, had id all checked and can`t find anything wrong. but with the sunroof open cannot hear owt.. weird hey!! does the standard 2.0 turbo come with a strut brace as standard??

 

huh, that is very odd. i don't know what to tell you. as far as strut braces, no they don't. i am not sure whats available for that car either. did you have the car looked at a shop? seems odd that it only does it when the sunroof is open.

no you got me wrong again mate, it only does it when the sunroof shut. i suppose mine not like everybody`s on here hey, mines not an 03, 04.. not got that kind of money matey. its a impreza 2.0 turbo, (94), been round the block hey, dont half shift though, could do with a few bits and bobs though i think, 9 years of thrashing must take it out of any car... the reason i asked about the strut brace is i might take it off and try it see it gets rid off that noise, thats wot they told me at garage (none subaru garage)

 

yeah, my bad. i mistyped. i got what you meant though. does it sound as though its coming from the general area of the sunroof? or is that just a guess? i know lots of the older legacys and imp.'s i have worked on seem to have some sort of rattle or noise, but they are not usually that bothersome. did anyone suggest an exhaust rattle, perhaps heat shields?? we get tons of people coming with this horrible/awful/terrible/car must be falling apart noise, that turns out to be loose heat shields.

 

no mate its deffinately from the sunroof, or roof creaking, when driving slow on bumpy road its as though the the roof is bending about, its not 2 bad i just dont want any back seat passengers 2 sepperate from me. anyway mate i`ll chat after the weekend, goin away for bank holiday.. see ya
