Is it possible to add an aftermarket sunroof in an 02-03 WRX?

NEVER NEVER NEVER!!

Do NOT under any circumstances install an aftermarket sunroof in ANY vehichle. These companies come and go faster than the 4 seasons. Workmanship if often mediocre at best and when it starts to leak, you will never find a replacement that fits becasue the company will likely no longer exist.

Don't believe me, go check with some reputable body shops. People who have been in business for a long time will confirm.

Good luck,

The so called "roll cage" roof beam is a pain in a but to relocate. I installed one into a 02 WRX last year. It worked fine. The roof bow is a bit thicker than most cars but poses no problem if you relocate the bow further back. The bow will not probide much protection if any in a roll over crash. It is only about a 16th of an inch thick. If you do have a moon roof or sun roof installed, make damn sure the roof bow is relocated and not removed completely. The roof bow keeps the roof sheet metal from flexing up and down and does provide structure for the roof's sheet metal. The sunroof in a way helps add to the strength of the roof as well. The sheet metal is clamped between two aluminum frames and realy does a good job of providing some rigidity to the roof in conjunction with the roof bow.

There are a couple of good brands to choose from:

Webasto (German company in business for ever)
SFC (Stretch Form Corp) Been in business since the early 70s
ASC (American Sunroof Company) Been in business since the 70s
Farmont (French company) Work ok but you know the French...

Stay away from Funsport. These sun roofs are crap and should never be sold. Good luck...

Gordon,

I would not worry about the roof bow. Just take your car in and have your sunroof installed. Just read the warranty info and get a good price and a good shop to do the work. A good shop will know what to do. If you are worried about the roof bow, then ask them about it. Most will show you what they will have to do. I am sure you will be happy with it. And make sure you get a sunroof with an optional sun shade.
