subarus reasoning for not putting in a sunroof is taht a car without one is stiffer than one with one... makes sense... however, i have seen it done, check out the "other" site, they should have some info, then post what you find here...

You can get a moonroof installed for 1200 at the dealer. Actually, its not done at the dealer, they bring it somewhere and give you a 3yr/30k warranty like they do on the car. 1200 isn't bad, but I would be very upset if the moonroof started to leak after 3yrs...

Moonroof

Here in Northern California,

My dealer had a moonroof installed for about $1200.
The make is WebastoHollandia. It is fully electric. Very nice.
It was installed in Freemont at place that does custom leather interior conversions. The moonroof has programable one touch open, vent, and close. It also fine tune adjustment. It closes when the car is shut off. It can also vent when car is off. It has safety obstuction feature as well.

Yep, dealers started offering these as "dealer-installed" a while back, and they do send them out to local "sunroof shops" so the only real problem is consistency - you might not get the same make of sunroof in CA as you will in NY, the quality may vary depending on the skill/care of the particular installer, etc.

The good news is there is a TSB from Subaru informing dealers that a sunroom will not weaken the structural integrity of the car.

the safety of the car wont be compromised much at all with a sunroof in. they had the same deal with the forester, they didnt think they could put a sunroof in because it would lower their safety ratings, but when they did put one in, it did nothing. have you seen the size of the sunroofs on the new foresters, they are huge.
