STI theft?
STI theft?
I was talking to my friends about the hugely disproportiante amount of stolen and stripped Integra GS-Rs and a thought occured to me. If you dont know integras, GS-Rs get stolen because the 170hp GS-R motor and tranny is an easy swap into 110-130hp civics and 140hp Integra LS, RS, GS's. Because it is so easy to swap the sought after VTEC B18C into the lesser honda models, integra GS-R's are stolen like 3 times as much as the 2nd most stolen car.
Anyway, my point is that the STI comes with not only arguably the best motor to ever grace a production WRX (with a better turbo, 2.5L and 50 more HP), but bolted right to it is the much superior 6-speed imprezza tranny (with a nice front LSD in there for good measure). On top of this there is the turbo and suspension, all those assorted goodies. All of this stuff will bolt up to a normal WRX. So even though the STI might be harder to steal than an integra, I cant help but wonder if the STI could be destained to become another victim of "ricer swap syndrome". Anyone have any thoughts?

The STi will certainly be high on the theft list for the reasons you have already stated. Insurance company can't protect it from being stolen. They can only compensate you for the theft. It's the same risk you will have for owning any limited production highly desirable cars.

Sti's production numbers are said to be 4000-5000 per year, making them much less likely to be stolen, just b/c you won't see one everyday. then again, when someone does see it, they may be more inclined to hijack it. so the risk is there. my solution would be to buy an STi motor/drivetrain and dump it in a nice GC8... now that would be sweeet!

can the motor/parts just bolt on a regular WRX? if not, I don't think it would be stolen to be stripped. Plus X1 makes a good point, it will have low production numbers so it's harder to scope out the car before you steal it.
