Get yourself a Kartboy for half the price. Get the shifter bushing as well. Better yet, find a used one.

I got the factory (SPT) 5MT short thow when I bought the car. I've really liked it... no loose pattern, no problems. It was a little stiff when new but broke-in after a couple of weeks. I haven't used the aftermarket shifters so have nothing to compare it to. Mine came with the leather-wrapped **** that won't give me 1st degree palm burns during the summer.

it won't be cheap... STi short throw is the linkage too so a lot more needs to be done in order to install.

My advice would be get the Short Throw from the dealer and then add the Kartboy bushings it feels great on my car.

i don't know about the dealer where you are, but we charge about 2 hrs labor which equals about 140.00. the shifter we sell for 220.00. retail is about 295.00.

The STi short shifter doesn't only change the geometry. It actually has better linkage so the shift is truly shorter. While KB short shifters are good, they only change the geometry. If you can affort the STi Short shifter, go for it, NOT the one in the link you posted.

This is what you want:

kartboy vs Subaru

for all the reasons above it's worth the STi shifter if you can afford it. Spring for some Kartboy or Cusco shifter bushings, it's a pretty easy install, and only a few bucks, and the feel is very nice.
