From Subaru.com talking about the STi:

Built upon a rally car heritage, the Impreza WRX STI is for the racecar driver at heart. It will make you feel like you’re tearing up the track, although you’re only driving down the street.
Are they condoning street racing?

Here is my opinion/correction on what many have said in this thread.

The STi is different from the WRX which is the performance model below it because it has different things performance and looks wise. A few examples would be different SEATS and a WING and H.I.D.s etc. The STi is a trim, the Impreza is the car.

The Honda Integra in Japan comes in more models than the Type-R. The model below it is called the Type iS. It comes with different things performance and looks wise. For example the Type-R comes with different SEATS, a Type-r WING and H.I.D.s along with other stuff. The Type-R is the trim the Integra is the car.

See where I'm going here?

Sure they can. They can change the seats, the body mods, the wheels, put Sti emblems on. Then it's still going to cost you a couple grand to change the brakes over to match.... By this time they should have just bought the Sti to begin with. But, if someone's comfortable with putting the emblems on.. It's your WRX do what you want, nobody is makin' the payments for ya...

It's your car, do what you want with it. If other people are going to judge you and call you a poseur, then ignore them.

I have a 06 with sti trunk, no badges. The badges kinda stands out and people really think its a STi when its not. I really dont care, i just like the sti wing.

I get this alot.

STI stands for Subaru Technica International. I don't think it's saying you have something you don't, but more of support for Subaru.

The only STI logos I have are the STI fog light covers bc I think my front end looked too plain. The trunk is debadged from an '04 STI.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I've been thinking about putting one on myself.

Your car looks great Subydude06...

Thanks.

I know that the local Subaru dealership has been doing trunk swaps (WRX & STI) on new cars also. So some people buy a WRX that has an STI trunk bc someone bought an STI and didn't want the wing.

best thing is to look at the front grill. for the red dual horns. but if they change em, then it gets a lil harder.

Here's one for all you STi owners:

Is it wrong to roll an STi with a WRX trunk (Winged or wingless) let's see your thoughts on this one.

On the topic at hand...I have two opinions.

In the US, I think the STi is able to be considered it's OWN car. At least until the 2006 came out it had an entirely different engine and transmission.

Where as in Japan, it still held a 2.0 and the STi was more of a tuned version of the WRX.

Either way. I say it's ok to put the STi badge on the car.

BUT, if you were to ask me about putting the GT-R emblem on a lower model Skyline....well that would get some different opinions from me.

Those are hella horns. They are not stock on any WRX or STI. I'm guessing you saw an STI with them.
