Wow, after seeing those pics and reading that really no MAJOR improvements mechanically were made really makes it seem unappealing in every sense of the word. Stopping power stays the same, HP/TQ stays the same and it's longer in wheelbase by alot! I thought Subaru was making a smaller more nimble car to be more competetive in the WRC but it sounds like its just getting bigger and conforming to what every other manufacturer is building. I guess it makes sense financially for the companies ability to break more into the global market with a more versatile/blandly designed car. If that is what Subaru intended to do then it looks like they succeeded.

As far as "creating a more mature Impreza".....WHY?!?!
I always figured that a "Mature Impreza" = " Subaru Legacy"

To me it looks like a Legacy. The only thing that I don't like is the grille. Everyone should have known it was going to look more like the Legacy because it is based off the same chassis. I think it is funny how everyone is upset and will be buying an Evo X next year instead of the base model WRX. I say give it a chance until the STi comes out and you see it in person.

The Evo X will be a nice car, but I still prefer Subaru over Mitsu****bi.... and besides the Evo X will be creeping towards the $40k mark (if not exceeds it) when it comes out....$40k for a Mitsu****bi (ither the value of the US Dollar is dropping or this car is a little too expensive for me)...nah chill....Subaru Boxer engine for life mon!!!

If I did my reading carefully in the May MotorTrend issue about the Impreza, the sedan will only come in 2.5i and WRX, the hatchback gets the 2.5i, WRX, and STi. The reason Subi obted for the hatchback look is because the hatch style is widely accepted globally (other than on American soils). Also, the rear taillights on the sedan will have the red cover instead of the chrome as seen on the hatchbacks and there will be a 10% increase in fuel economy.
From a personal note... doesn't that impreza look like a familiar face from the side?

I still don't like that they increased the whell base 3.7" and still have that much overhang. I thought the point of the hatch was for their WRC car, but what's the point of extending an already long wheelbase? How is that going to help them keep pace with the competition?
The May 2007 issue of Motor Trend reviewed the 2008 WRX. "OedipusWRX" pp.38-43. 2.5L 224hp/226 lb-ft torque not that significant of an improvement in power over previous years. A 15.0:1 (sti-like) steering gear from the old wrx 16.5:1. A reported 10% improvement in fuel economy. I'll think I'll still wait for the 2009's. Although on page-24 of the same issue, MT examines the new 3.6L boxer-six (256hp/247 pound feet of torque)-up from the old 3.0's 247hp/215lb-ft.
