noob exhaust question!

Hi

I'm looking at getting a tactrix cable for christmas for open source tuning and would like to get a downpipe for stg2. I would like to keep a stock catback. The cops in pleasanton look out for exhausts and my friend got caught a few months ago.

Will a 3" downpipe mate with a stock catback? Are there really any differences between different brand downpipes (HKS, helix, APS, ebay-random brand, etc)?

thanks
perry

Also, be very aware that the "stock catback" has a 2.5" neckdown and uses a "donut" gasket to seal.

The JDM and typical other aftermarket downpipes advertised as FULL 3", etc. use a flat flange.

There are solutions to mate flat flange DP with "donut" style Catbacks such as:

  1. Buy an adaptor (first google link shown here: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113365)
  2. Have a shop/exhaust shop cut/weld a flat flange piece on your stock cat-back exhaust
  3. Ghetto Fab it up and just hope the donut flange and plenty o' gasket sealant holds together without a nasty exhaust leak
My recommendation: either #1 or #2. I did #3 first, returned to have shop do #2 within 4 weeks as it was just a nasty a$$ leak that I should have paid to have #2 done while originally at the shop. I just wasted my time.

Learn from my mistake!!!

G/L whatever you decide....
