I have wanted a WRX for a long time now. I am finally ready to get rid of my car, and now I am not about to say what it is. Anyway, I don't have the best credit and I would like to get my hands on a used WRX. Can anyone tell me if they have been in my same position as goes credit and wanting a WRX very badly? How did you go about getting the car anyway, and did you do it with a loan?
Also, for all of you WRX lovers .. a very good question. Does the WRX keep it's value well? I don't want to buy a brand new one and not be able to sell it for a decent price once I must I wish to get rid of it.
In addition, if I bought a used one, how late year wise can I go in order to have a safe feeling the car is in good shape, given the previous owner took care of it? I know this is more of the hypothetical situation questions, but I want one badly, and want to make sure I can handle it, and getting a used WRX would not be a mistake and cost more than a new one in the end. Thanks everyone!

If you really want one, you just have to look around everywhere to find one that suits your needs and budget. if you were going new, you would be looking at somewhere around $22-23k for an average. although you can get the base for something like 21 or little less. but that has nothing, not even the side skirts. going used is prob the best idea. i have seen some used at about $20k.
about what year to get, you don't have much choice. the car was sold in '01, although an '02 model. so finding an early production date 02 is your best and cheapest bet, although it's not going to be cheap by any means. subbies def hold their value well. i worked in a garage that specialized in subs, often selling 92-93 legacys for as much as $3-4k w/ high miles. these cars will run forever. the 92 loyale i had was 203k. and runnng strong. one customer has 97 outback with 300k.
so if you can afford it, it's a good investment all around. very reliable, safe, and waaay too much fun. and if you wanted to sell it after a couple years (and the only reason you would do that, is to buy the STi version due in june!!!) you would be able to get decent money for it.

hey there
well, it seems with bad credit these days almost anyone will give you a loan, BUT you will pay through the nose for one. your rate will be very high, and they will make you sign over everything you own, or require a co-signer to seal the deal. so you need to decide how much you really want one.
i highly recommend a used wrx or 2.5RS. if you do buy used, you will save money, and possibly pick one up that has a few mods already. take the car to a subaru mechanic and have him/her check it out before you hand over the $$. i recently sold an audi S4 avant, and part of the contract was the buyer wanted the car to be checked out by a cetrified audi mechanic. the car was super clean, so i had no problem letting him take the car to get checked out. you should do the same. looks can be decieving, and although someone might seem trustworthy, it can come back to bite you...if they won't let you have it checked out DONT buy it....
in terms or resale, subaru's have a decent resale value. i think many of the prices you will see of modded cars is inflated. people think just becouse they assed a bunch of mods it raises the value of the car. for the right buyer it might, but the reality is it doesnt raise the value. when i sold my wrx wagon, it had a ton of mods (2K in wheels and tires, original vishnu stage 0, STi IC, etc, etc) and I sold it for $21k. That was with about 24k on the clock. that was also 6 months ago. A fair deal considering the amount of $$ i had put into the car.
PJ is right on on the reliability. taken careof correctly, these things will run forever. i have buddies in tahoe driving 77 gl wagons that have 400-500k miles on them. some on the original motor!!!!! the drivetrain is bomb proof (minus the tranny if you mod it heavily). for the $$, i honestly cant think of a better car. fast, AWD, safe and a TON of fun to drive.
good luck!

I suggest you go to www.carbuyingtips.com and do some serious research about it before you really decide buying a car. I've been reading that site 3 times now and I've been researching to buy a car (mainly been biased toward other cars and wanting to get teh WRX
) for 6 months now.
Its a great site. Definitely check it out, read through it first, before you decide to buy. It also has links to finding loans for bad credit people. Enjoy.
