(Cross-posted with NASIOC thread):
Hi all! I just bought a silver '03 WRX sedan 2 days ago. I have a few questions about the factory "Security System Upgrade" (part #H7110SS100). Any comments are appreciated.
1. Is this factory system worth it?
2. Has anyone installed the factory security upgrade themselves? I've seen instructions and they seem pretty straightforward (http://subaruparts.com/install/2002isecsys.pdf).
3. Has anyone ever ordered parts from: http://www.subaruparts.com/ If so, how was your experience with them?
I know I can get an aftermarket system such as Alpine or Clifford, but I'm not sure if I like the idea of some kid installer at Best Buy or Circuit City snipping wires on my new car. I've heard stories of having problems with car warranties on a botched alarm install.

You probably want to post these questions in the Stereo & Security forum, maybe a moderator will move this thread....
Anyway, I installed the factory security upgrade into my '03 about a month ago and had no problems with the install, it took about an hour. It's actually kinda cool to take your car apart a bit and see where things are and what's behind some of the plastic. Incidentally if you're thinking about putting in the air filtration element then do it at the same time, that way you'll only have to take the glove compartment apart once.
I bought it from allsubaru.com for I think $140 and their service was good.

Thanks for the info!
If I can install this in only a few hours, I think it'll be totally worth the cost. The diagrams make it look like much of the wiring is already existing.

All the wiring is there ready to go, it's just a matter of disconnecting and re-connecting a few wiring harnesses. The only slightly tricky part was under the steering column, but that might just have been me. The front of the plastic e-brake surround molding is only held in place by clips and you may have to use more force than might be considered reasonable (my car was only a week or 2 old when I did this and I would have been mad as hell if I broke the fooking thing).
Forgot to say, nice job getting an '03, I much prefer the so called "bug eye" look.
