I'm looking to get some hood pins for my 2002 wrx. Can someone think of any reasons i shouldnt get them? I need some convincing or disuading.
I want them for cosmetic reasons and possibly even to save some weight. So the question is...If i do get hood pins can i remove the pulley, cabling, and latch for the hood to save some weight???
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

well if you had a carbon hood that would be an easy yes. you can do whatever you want really. i don't think you would have any problem removing the cable/latch system...however check will it pass an inspection? not sure what the law is in your state but in maine it would fail for not having the proper hood latch. other than that, i can see no reason not to.

Do you think that would be a problem?

aluminum does not rust. it immediately forms a layer of aluminum oxide a few atoms thick, too thin to notice. this effectively prevents any further oxidation, unless you powder it and stick it near a flame...i wouldn't recommend trying that with your hood.

Super...I'm so glad there are people out there who paid attention in chemistry class. So...it should be fine just drilling the hole and putting in the hood pins then?
thanks so much.
