I have a '98 Outback Limited that I bought new in the summer of '97. It has 65,500 trouble free miles and I've been real happy with it. My main complaint is a SERIOUS lack of power for how I like to drive. I also think it should be a couple inches wider and have a little more room in the back seat. I want a limited slip differential which they didn't have back then but all Subs do now I think. When I bought it I made the mistake of getting an auto transmission. I sure hope I haven't forgotten how to drive a stick in the last six years So, I want to replace it since the lack of power drives me nuts. What should I get?
My daily drive is maybe ten miles to work with no freeways, but the streets have a little bit of curves and a hill thrown in. I need an excellent daily driver with room for kids in the back. What I need is something with the size and comfort of the Outback and some of the performance of the WRX wagon.
I fear getting a WRX wagon will give me all the performance I need but at the expense of being too small and losing some of the daily driving and comfort features I need. I'd be all over the WRX wagon if I was single and twenty.
The top of the line Outback can be had with a six cylinder engine but not with a stick. I should get a stick this time I think. Those Outbacks sure are heavy too. Their price is more than I want to spend too.
I heard the Forester is soon getting a turbo. Any thoughts on this? When I bought the Outback the Forester was just coming out. I jumped in one and thought the rear seat room was a little more cramped than the Outback and my knee hit the driver side door in the driving position due to the door handle position. The Outback has a very flat door which I LOVE-however they have since changed this on the Outback.
The legacy is changing in the summer of '04 right? Will there be a new Outback then too? Think it will get a turbo?
There has to be something that gives me the size and versatility of the Outback while having some of the performance qualities of the WRX.
