So my gf and I went to look at a 99 Impreza Outback Sport yesterday. And she came away really liking it. I also liked it, reminded me of my wagon. I wanted opinions on if this is highmilage or not.
It had 160k freeway miles, but its driven by an older couple, so it was well maintained. body is in above average condition, drove smooth, and suspension seems to be in tip top shape. Brought a fellow suby owned to check it out, who gave it a tumbs up.
Had alot of miles because the would drive to Colorado alot. But ayway, has all the records and such. The lady seemed motivated to sell so she can get a convertible, they wanted $4250 but Im sure we could get them down maybe around $3600? Ideas? Thoughts?

 

i would say go for it, sounds like the car has been treated well.

That's not an outrageous amount of miles for that year and those NA motors will do 250k if taken care of and more and swaps are doable.

I have 125k on my 2004 for reference.

 

I learned all my moves taking my moms OBS rallycrossing without her knowing. I beat a few STis and WRXs as well.

They are awesome cars. Watch out for Clutch maintenance tho, i roached my moms at 36K miles, but the second clutch is on its 100K mile! so they last.

And double check for rust... Drving over the Rockies for that many miles, youre bound to find some rust, bring a flashlight and a towel and get under that car!

 

Its an auto. Is the rer sway bar on that the same size as the stock rear sway bar on my 02 wrx wagon?

 

No. the OBS comes with a 13mm, i swapped mine out to a WRX Wagon 17mm.

It was a real smooth ride we drove it around w/ 4 full size adults in it, and i was impressed with the smoothness of the ride, and low noise compared to mine. Went over speed bumps with no noise either

 

so is that whats wrong with my car?

when im coasting at low rpms in a One-gear-too-high (like 4th gear going 25 mph) rpms, and hit the gas, like tap iot with my foot and immediately get off, it goes "clank clank clank"

well it wasnt in the cards to buy that Impreza. The lady wouldn't nego and we didnt want to pay over 4k for it.
But guess what we found
a 95 Impreza L wagon w/ 130k, 5 speed, white, and in pretty good condition. Had all the maintenance records too. So we could see all the services that were recently done ie timing belt, cv boots and tires. The gf really liked driving it and I think shes gonna get it
