GC-8 Chassis

does any one know if my subaru impreza 96 lx has a GC-8 chassi, i want to put in a new engine so if anyone has the knowlege please let me know.

Well, the general term of GC8 seems to apply to any 93-01 Impreza, but specifically a 96 LX would be either a GM4, GM2, GC4 or GC2 dependend on how many doors and what type of engine you have

As for an engine, any EJ series engine is swapable into a 93-01 Impreza.

Car Info: 1995 Subaru Impreza 1.8 L

The EJ series = the current generation dating back to around 1990 of Subaru engines. Any Impreza engine is basically an EJ series engine, but vary in configuration.

someone told me a GC8 was actualy the japaneese version....what is the American version of our car......?

GC = Sedan
8 = 2.0 Turbo
So yes technically GC8 = JDM WRX/STI

As for our cars, it depends on the engine and specific configuration (wagon/sedan/coupe)
GM = Coupe
GC = Sedan
6 = 2.5l
4 = 2.2l
2 = 1.8l

GC-4

you have a GC-4 chassis since your 96 LX is a 4 door 2.2L engine ... so you can swap it with a EJ20T engine or the 22T or 25T ... gotta make sure your stock transmission can handle the increase in horsepower and torque
