first oil change..
ok heres the story. I am new to the subee world
I have a 03 wrx sedan that I got from the second owner with 126k and counting ALL STOCK
ALL previous owners have been running DYNO oil for its life, I am about to do the oil change and was wondering if I should switch to SYN oil at this change if so what flavor and weight? or should I stick with DYNO oil
I live in nor cal in the mountains and do a lot of daily freeway driving, mountain driving and every so often I use it for what it was made for.
I do have a small leak coming from the oil pump seal and some light weeping from valve cover gaskets(just noticed yesterday when doing the plugs)
I am currently using 5w-30
thanks for your help...

I would switch to full synth. Dino is OK if you are religious about changing your oil (which you still should be with synth) but synth is better for the turbo IMO, especially if you will be using "as intended"
Just did my valve cover gaskets and around 100K is when they need to be done, so that would tend to be "normal".
I know a lot of people use T6, but my WRX didn't like it at all. My WRX had zero oil leaks, but I also had every seal imaginable replaced to achieve that.

I swapped to VALVOLINE 5w30 full synth with the OEM filter
I am **** about oil leaks and oil changes, so I think every 4500 miles it will be done
thanks for your help

Personal experience : my 02 Killed valvoline 5w30, shearing it to 20 grade in only 3100 miles of very easy driving. I went rotella T6 and now go 6,000+ without loss or shearing. There are several very good/cheap/available oils for our engines; valvoline is usually not in that group.

Check it every fill up, whatever you do.

I tried the Valvoline once oin my 05 STI, it burned it up. I changed to Mobil 1 Extended performance 5W30 with No oil burning between changes. no issues at all Going on 140K and still running Strong. Dont forget a good Quality Filter too. Definitly recomend SYN on all Turbo models.

As was already mentioned, YMMV. My WRX ate Mobil 1 like candy. Believe it or not, I am just using OEM Subaru synth and it works great and the price is right. I buy it by the case and it is cheaper than pretty much all off the shelf oil except T6. My issue with T6 is that it is 40W and I could actually tell the difference while running it, but the car didn't eat it up either.
