I own a 99 Impreza with the EJ25. The only mod I have done is a custom short ram intake. Now i need an exhaust. I'm sure that many would agree with me when i say that i cannot afford $500 dollars for a bent pipe with a chrome muffler on the end of it so I am going to do a custom job. I was planning on taking out both the catylitic converters and making the pipe diameter a quarter inch bigger with a straight through design muffler. (yea...i know i'm a tightwad, but its cheaper that way) Is this a good idea. The car seems to run out of gas in the post 4000 rpm area and I thought that maybe this would help. Am I right. If you have tried this could you please share with me your experiences. THANK YOU

 

i agree with you about spending $500+ on an exhaust. not only do i think thats a ridiculous amount, i dont want a 3" exhaust(na engine) with a huge muffler with a 5 1/2" tip. yes i know you can get almost any size you want in an exhaust. i plan on going this route(but will get high flow cat section) but my only problem is i cant find a place to get a custom mandrel bent exhaust.

 

well, i believe i have found the solution to my problem. www.stromung.com has a 2.25" intermediate pipe.i assume its made with mandrel bends. i already know what muffler i want, so this should work great. now i just have to get money together for the header/high flow cat section/intermediate pipe/muffler.
