Cracked Windshield - Ughhhh!
I am soooo pisssed and I had to vent. I have 500 miles on my new WRX Wagon and then I heard it. Pop!!! I quickly look at the windshield and there it is. A little, no a tiny 1/2 crack on the pass side.
Will it grow? Can I get to work before it does to call the Windshield shop to see what they can do?
Then, as I pull into the parking lot...
Crack!
Son of B****! Now it is 6 inches long!!!
Ughhh. Ok, how much? I don't even got plates yet!!! Come on!
Can the dealership replace it? I have to go get my clear bra installed next week and maybe I will have them do a replacement.
I dunno.. Maybe if it had like 10000 miles on it and it was winter I could live with it for awhile.
/vent off
Mike

What does your insurance cover? If you live in an area likely to be bombarded with winter salt and rocks (such as New England), it's wise to get a $0 deductible coverage on glass. This is what most MA residents have with their insurance, and it covers both repairs and replacements. I had a repair done to a chip 3 weeks after I bought my car, no big deal.
if the crack started from the side it is a stress crack, happened on my subaru, take it to the dealership, they should replace it for free under warranty, just do some research to find out about stress cracks and make sure you have info to back up your warranty claim, but i got mine fixed for free. it started as a small 1" crack on the left, then grew to 6" the to 18" then about 4" from other side then a new crack started at other side about 2" long then slowly grew till it connected to the long crack, thats when i decided it was time to get it repaired. good luck
I just had my car painted, glass changed from industrial fallout at work. The insurance adjuster quoted an allowance of $609.00 (canadian) for a new windshield. I wanted a Subaru windshield. I found out that it costs $1428.98(canadian)(part # 65009FE030)
My Subaru windshield has a heated strip where the wipers rest to ment any snow that builds up.
Check to see if your insurance company will pay for this. I was lucky and I got to keep the old one, I have it in storage right now. (i saw nothing wrong with it)
