Due to the recent cold snap here in the northeast I have had the pleasure of observing some very strange behavior when starting my impreza in the morning (~0 F).

I start (usually hard 6+ cranks), but once it catches it will idle around 1500. It wants to ramp back down to a lower idle, but shoots back up to where is was. This doesn't bother me....

What bothers me is while it is finding it's idle I hear a clicking under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. It's either a relay or valve. Whatever it is, it clicks like crazy, THEN BAM... The CEL is on and the clicking continues. Once it warmed up the clicking stopped and the vehicle ran fine.

I have put new plugs in, but NOT wires (I need to do ASAP). I have seen threads that mention plugs & wires, but I am thinking it could be something else. I have looked at the diagrams and think it could be a few other items, but am unsure.

Does anyone know of a relay, valve or ?? that is near the dash on the drivers side? Anyone have this happen to them?
