Starting in cold weather?

Sometimes the car takes an extra crank or two when starting.

What does everyone do different, if anything when it's really cold out?

i turn the key in the on position for a second or two to let teh fuel pump get fuel to the engine. pushing the throttle doesnt work for me it doesnt start faster at all it takes longer. so i just keep it going

Mine does the same occassionally. However, a grounding kit would help you out... Also, try and just turn the ignition on without starting the car, and wait about 10 seconds, this lets the fuel pump "start up" and you should have a better engine start.

I have a grounding kit, but I don't just turn the key and leave it for a few seconds.

Sounds like a good idea, I'll give it a shot.

45 degree! i think we are gauging "cold" differently here! it was -45 degree windchill in some part of minnesota a week ago. in extreme cold (below 0) my 04 wrx starts with little hesitation and has a high pitch whining for 30 secs or so, but other than that, it's a reliable starter. i wish i have an oil temp gauge so i can see how fast it warms up.

Mine doesn't like the cold much either. Is it harder for you to down shift when you car is cool? Mine does but i shift a bunch of times it goes away and shifts normal. I figured this was kind of come for Subaru's

at that temperature, my clutch is a bit rubbery and the gear just doesn't seem to go in right. nothing a few minutes of gentle driving doesn't fix. i do wish i have heated seats/mirrors/wipers, though!
