Clutch trouble?!!

Hey i-club

The weirdest thing happened to me today.

I was driving down Palm in Fremont,CA 4th gear and shifted it into neutral coming to a complete stop. When the light turned green, I pressed down the clutch and tried shifting into 1st gear.

THE BURNING CLUTCH SMELL came into the cabin!

I was not able to shift into first gear while holding down the clutch. I idled my sti for 30 seconds before turning off the car. I popped open my hood to smell that terrible (burning clutch) smell. I got back into my car and realized that I was still able to press down the clutch and shift gears (car in off position). But when i turned it on again, the clutch could be pushed down but the gearbox was unable to move!!!

After calling a friend to comeover and check out the car again (30min wait period)... I turned on my STi and the clutch and gearbox worked! I WAS TOTALLY LOST AND CONFUSED TO WHY THIS HAPPENED??? DID I BURN OUT THE CLUTCH OR RUN OUT OF CLUTCH FLUID? WHAT WAS THE REASON TO WHY I WAS NOT ABLE TO SHIFT INTO GEAR UNTIL AFTER A WAITING PERIOD TO FIND OUT THAT I CAN DRIVE OFF AGAIN...

ANY SUGGESTIONS OR ANSWERS?

Not sure what happened but I would change the fluid and bleed it just in case it wasn't fnctionin correctly. How many miles on the clutch? Have anything aftermarket in the trans? What kind of clutch?
