Buying WRX soon need advice...
Ok I'm looking to purchase a WRX this summer, but 1st I have a few questions.
1.)Manual or Automatic?... my friend owns a WRX (man) and I test drove it. Never used a manual before. Kind of confusing at 1st, but i got a little bit used to it. The problem is I drive quite a bit here in L.A. and I constantly drive in traffic. I'm not looking break any speed records. Im basically getting it because Im a fan of Rally racing and the Subaru team. My friend says he will kill me if i got Auto, but I've been looking at the boards and it seems not to be that big of a difference.
2.) What should I be expecting for a price on a stock WRX?
3.) If I did get extra items from Subaru...what do think is necessary?
4.) I'm looking to turn the outside into a rally theme...stickers etc... and turn the inside into a home theater theme. Can anyone recommend some good websites?
5.) 2003 or 2004 model? Whats the benefits?
6.) should I wait for STI.
thats all I can think of now, but I would appreciate if anyone could give me some good tips. Thanks in advance

now, i'll be the first to admit, i'm no king in the wrx area, but i know enough
to fill your questions.
1) get a manual, enough said, if i find out you got a auto, i'll help your friend
kill you and hide your body (just kidding there, but do get the manual)
2) Stock 2003 you could spend about 19000-21000 only becasue it's last
years model, the new 2004, my guess would be the mid-high 20's
3)Don't get extra's from the dealer, all they do is rip you off, and you can get
better stuff on your own (just look around in import magazines, I.E.:
Super Street, Import Tuner, etc.)
4) For the stickers, go to 3dgrafix.com, they have good **** there, and it's quality, but
you can also find good local ****. I have a system in my car, all i can say is go for
alpine audio systems, they are the best. you might pay a little more, but it is so worth
it (i have a DVD player, 3 screens, all alpine speakers, and 2 10" subs in the trunk
(no trunk space now)
5) 2004 all the way, i have a 03, and i'm happy, but the 2004 are better, read about
both, you make the choice, it's your money, but the 04 is better.
6)if your not going to race it nor break any speed records, no reason to wait for the sti,
but it is still fun for when you want to, once agian, read about both and make the call.
Good hunting, and have fun with the subaru (they can go more off road then you think)

Buying a New WRX
Brisal73,
I bought a new '03 from Santa Monica Subaru on the 31st of March which was the last day to take advantage of some the low financing and rebate... not sure if they have 2.9% for 60 mo's still... I got it at 2.9% instead of 3.9% which was better..
I delt with Reza the Internet Sales Mgr (www.smcars.com) and paid $20,900 at 2.9%
total with 3K down, tax, lic, etc was $22,858.96
got a Platinum Silver Met. without any upgrades from the dealer. Will add a short shift kit later.. maybe kart-boy?
go for the manual transmission... I live in LA and unless you drive over the hill to the Valley every day at rush hour, it's great..

the reason i ordered the extra stuff from subaru is because it is also covered by them.
http://www.subaru.com/owners/care/warranty/middle.jsp
What Is Covered
These warranties cover any repairs needed to correct defects in material or workmanship reported during the applicable warranty period and which occur under normal use:
in any part of the 2004 model year Subaru
in any Genuine Subaru Optional Accessories installed on the car prior to delivery
----
i don't want the hassle of having to install something or try to get something fixed from the aftermarket parts dealer. I'd rather pay the extra and when something goes wrong, go to the dealer and say "here, you fix it".

warranty coverage
It is true that some dealers are jerks about aftermarket stuff, but some are actually good. If you search for warranty issues on this forum, you'll probably find people who've seen both sides and you can make judgement based on their experiences. Just remember that when you modify the car - performance wise, you do run the risk of stressing parts beyond their intended designs. Dealers love to take advantage of that. Just be careful and make sure you are know what you are getting into when you do an aftermarket upgrade. Proper engine management and aftermarket part installation and routine maintenance are essential to a long lasting car that will hopefully keep you out of the dealer service department.
