Beware of UPS

I posted this on the other Subaru site, but I thought I should place it here as well, so that others are aware of a serious problem with UPS. Actually, I'm sure a lot of you can relate to my story...
Recently I ordered a downpipe from Nino's. Cool service, excellent communication, so no problems there. It was to be shipped UPS 2nd day air because I live here in Hawaii. Nino was kind enough to get me the tracking #, so I started tracking the package.
Day 0, I saw that it was scanned and picked up at its origin in N.J. No problems. On early Day1, I noticed that it was in Philadelphia. No problems, it's making its way over. By late, late Day 1 though, it was still in Philadelphia! How is it going to make its way across the mainland, and across the Pacific by day 2? Usually the plane doesn't go nonstop from Philly to Hawaii! It usually makes a stop somewhere around the west coast. By early Day 2, the package was still in Philadelphia. What the heck?
Thinking that the package was going to be a day late, I stepped out of the house for a couple of hours. Wouldn't you know? The package arrives when I'm not home! The driver just leaves the box in my garage with no signature.
So I lift the box, and it's very, very light. It's supposed to weigh 16 lbs! I open the box, and there's NOTHING inside! Upon closer inspection of the box, I noticed that someone had cut the tape around one of the flaps, and retaped the flap back down. Of course, I just got jacked!
I know that it couldn't be anyone around my "old folks" neighborhood that took it. No one around here has the savvy or the guts to do that. Besides, if they wanted the dp, wouldn't they have just taken the whole box, and not taken the time to methodically open and reseal the thing? I THINK IT'S AN INSIDE JOB OVER AT UPS. A UPS worker at the west coast city-stop probably took the dp, resealed the box, didn't scan it, and sent it on it's merry way.
The driver that dropped off the box probably knows what's going on in his own company, so I'm sure he was in a rush to get rid of the box. How else can you justify dropping off an empty, 4 foot high box that clearly says on the label that it weighs 16 lbs?
I called Nino and he was as shocked as I was. He was cool about it and promised me a replacement dp soon. I feel sorry for him because he has to go through the PITA of filing the claim and crap. Sellers and buyers beware!
That practice is just not right. I'm sure it happens often. UPS gotta clean house and fix the problem, otherwise they're going to lose business. Right now, I'm in the possession of the world's most expensive cardboard box!
