Question 22-Wannabe? Need help...

Sup all?

Ok, so I'm looking for some pretty indepth info here. I am considering trying to made a 22B replica is most respects. I know that I can get the flared fenders as part of a kit. Here's what I'd like a quick Yes or No on...

Will a 1995-1996 Impreza have the same body as the 2000?

- As in, will a JDM STI hood fit the 95?
- Will the STI Ver 5 front and rear bumper fit the 95?
- I would like to do a USDM 2.5L STI engine and tranny swap. Since all Impreza's are basically same it would be no harder to do this in the 95 car than the 2000 car right?
- I've been told that suspension components that fit any Impreza can be swapped to pretty much all Imprezas. True?
- Can the 2000 or maybe even 2003 interior be fused into the 95?

From the research I've done, I believe all of this is doable in a pretty much "bolt in" fashion. I don't mind doing all the work myself (That's half the fun). But I don't want to have to custom fabricate a ton of parts to do it.

Thanks for your help Suby experts.

It all sounds very doable to me except the 2003 interior. That one might take some effort (read: $$$$$$$).

Cool. So the chasis for the 1995 and the 2000 are the same, just with different body panels and interior?

What is the chasis code for the 1995 Impreza? Is it also GC8?

Around these forums, GC8 is kind of a generalization for old school Imprezas. I don't want to reffer to my car with the letters G and M ever! Even though it's a GM6.

I have had this 22B idea for quite some time as well.

I wonder why I haven't heard of any real 22B owners on the i-club. They could answer alot of questions for us.

Well if the tranny and engine won't fit as a straight swap... Then I might as well get a 1998-2000 2.5RS, build the engine and swap in the DCCD 6Speed. Sides, with a built motor I can probably get 300+whp on pump gas.

What year L is best suited to be converted to a 98-01 rs body style, sti engine, suspension, interior, etc.?
Or is just cheaper to start out with a rs because by the time the body of the L is converted the rs,will I already have spent more then the rs costs?

Everything will fit as long as you use the same model year parts. For example, if you bought a 94 Impreza L, and decided to convert every part to a 2000 spec RS (or V6 Impreza), you'd have to match the following:

Headlights
Grille
hood
bumper (bumper can be V3-6)
rear bumper is the same on all cars (meaning, any of them will fit).

The most important thing is the headlights/grille/hood. Since they are year specific.

Good luck.

Wow, thank you. So basically if I start taking parts from a 2000 rs make sure all the parts are from the 2000 rs, not mixing between 98,99,00,or 01.

If you put in the EJ25t and DCCD in a GC8 successfully then it wont be a 22B (replica) anymore... it would be more unique.

Due to the body change in 02 all imprezas arent exactly the same. For your project it would be easier to get a 00 RS. Get a JDM EJ20t and a .2lt stroker kit and make your 22B replica engine, get some JDM parts and Tranny, a Cusco Rear LSD etc...

Not too many ppl if any have done a GC8 with a USDM EJ25t with 6 speed Tranny/ DCCD. If you do do it... you are the Man!! and a Broke man at that
Do the usdm 6-spds have the same dimensions as the j-spec 6spds? I ask because there have been a few people online (I-speed) who have put j-spec 6 spds into the GC8 bodystyle without ANY problem with the tunnel being too small. There is no need for a hammer when installing one, that is just a dirty rumor .

onikageka, I believe if you go with a widebody 22b kit, you have to use a 22b front and rear bumper. I am not completely certain about this, just an observation since the bumpers has to come out to meet the fender flares, where a regular bumper wouldn't.

FYI www.aerosim-research.com is wrking on a carbon fiber kit for GC8's, I am waiting for the wagon kit

Well, I know 99-01 are the same (headlights/grille/hood). 98 and below are all different.

So, if you stick with 99-01 RS parts, you'll be fine. (99-01 style looks better)
