04 Steering Rack Question

I need a new steering rack for my 04 WRX. Can I pick one off a junk 02/03 WRX or a new STI? Will one off of a wagon fit in a sedan? I can't afford any aftermarket steering racks unless it's less than $700.

There isn't a steering forum so i just threw this thread in here.
There was no help from the suspension forums.

Thanks for the responses.

Have you tried calling the parts department at a dealership and asking if they are interchangeable? I don't know the answer to this one...

They do not know either.

I looked at several repair manuals and it looks like it's only 4 bolts that holds it in place
the sti looks the same

can someone double check for me?

Those bolts hold the rack to the chassis but there are also the power steering fluid lines, the steering shaft, and the attachment to the (edit) tie rods. The steering shaft is easily disconnected by one nut and the rack assembly will slide off the splined end of the shaft but I've never really taken a good look at the power steering lines.

I'm almost scared to ask, but what happened to the original steering rack?
