STi - versus- 350z Track
I am most likely going to be buying an STi, however I am first trying to explore all options. What do you guys think about the 350z Track in comparison to an STi?
The one I do like about the 350z Track is that a DVD navigation system is available as an option, but I can always just add an aftermarket Alpine navigation system into the STi, right?

The way I look at it is this.
The STi is faster, handles better, and has awd. With just a couple simple mods an STi will run 12s in the 1/4 mile. That kind of performance would cost many thousands on a 350z. Mod for mod there is no comparison.
But if your not that interested in which car is faster then a 350z could be for you. The 350Z is a nice looking car with a great reputation.
So, if your looking for a car with serious potential and easy modding - get the STi
If you just want a quick car that looks nice, get the 350Z.

STi of cuz!!
350Z is a nice sport car and no doubt about it, but if you like it because of the netvigation system, then forget about it. You're right, you can get aftermarket ones WHICH CAN PLAY DVD!!! The factory one of the 350Z cannot play DVD...
SGOSWRX is right, you can make the STi very fast, very easily and CHEAP!! Moreover, 350Z is a two-seater and you'll find it pretty inconvenient as a everyday-use vehicle...
Well, if you go for style, get 350Z, if you go for style+performance+convenient, STi of cuz!!

Another versus on the 350Z? This has been beatin to death for 6 months already. Its your money, if you want the STi, buy one. If you want the 350Z, buy one. I would never let a magazine or someones opinion persuade my decision. Both are awesome cars but completely different and I don't think they are a valid comparison.
Bottom line, you are the one driving it, so buy what you want and what suits your needs or pleasure!

350Z, Greddy supposedly have twin turbo coming out for this, pushing ~330 whp
That would be awesome.

I know? Let's use our heads here.......
1) Ok, the cat-backs from the wrx will work for the STi. (I think, just from getting under my STi)
2) Ok, MBC / EBC's are universal so they will work.
3) Coil over's made for WRX's should fit.
As for other parts,
Now, hear me out on this one with an openmind.......
Subaru is only sending around 4,500 (if that) Sti's to us right.
Nissan has sent at lest 15,000 350z's over here.
The Aftermarket is based on demand. Just by the numbers, more people will want parts for the Z than the STi. The more parts out there "should make" them cheaper, right? Plus STi aftermarket parts "should/will" (I hope not) cost more because of limited production numbers and the R&D for the USDM car, right?

If the cat back exhaust is identical, that would be awesome. We'll have a lot of choices then. Might be able to pawn off the stock STi exhaust to help finance a decent aftermarket cat back, lol.

I agree with 'dsmperformance' on this one. Don't use just the "numbers" to decide on a car. Test drive both of them. Sit in them. Press all the buttons. Open and close the doors/glove box/trunk/etc and see how they feel and sound. Sit in all the seats. (If you care at all about passengers.) Think about all the options, whether factory or aftermarket. If you care about looks, consider the styling of both.
To me, a car is more than just numbers. It's a whole package which I'll be paying lots of money for and driving a lot of miles in. I'm currently in the same boat as Jag32: I'm debating between a few different cars, the 350z and the STI being at the top of my list. The fact that the STI is a factory turbo engine means getting big power increases should be cheaper than with a naturally aspirated engine like the 350z. However, it's hard to be the super smooth power curve of a naturally aspirated engine.
All in all, there are a lot of pros and cons for each car (as I'm sure have been discussed here ad nauseum), which is why I'm going back and forth on them. I haven't driven (or even seen in person) an STI yet, so there's no way I'm going to choose until I have that opportunity.

Winter
I looked briefly at the 350Z. It's a work of art; beautiful classic lines, able to fit my 6'3 1/2" frame (with manual seats in Track package) great specs, lovely powerplant.
However, bottom line the Z is only useable for 7 months each year here in Canada. The STi is gonna be fitted with winter wheels/rubber and she'll be good for 12 months out of every year!
Can't wait!

Yeah, that's an excellent arguement for the STI.
It's nice to be able to slap on a set of winter rims with snow tires and keep on going. I do the same with my Audi right now when we go up to the mountains for ski trips and whatnot. However, I live here in central California, where there is *never* snow. The only time I see the white stuff is when I travel somewhere that has it. That being the case, along with the fact that most of my friends with whom I go on ski trips with have 4x4 vehicles, I really don't need a snow-capable vehicle. But it is indeed nice to have the option if needed. On that note, if you get a set of winter-specific rims, wouldn't you still have to get 18 inchers to clear the brakes on the STI? So you'd be using 18" rims for snow use. Yikes!
