Cool site! The STi engine shown there is the current/previous model STi.. which uses a larger turbo on the 2.0L EJ20 engine found in the current US model WRX. The new STi that the "countdown" is being held for will use a 2.5 liter turbocharged engine with variable valve timing. 300hp and lots of low end torque. This breaks away from the FIA WRC Manufactures Championship heritage (since that race class is limited to 300hp 2.0L turbocharged engines), but is sure to help the STi beat the snot out of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII that's on it's way to the US.
In any case.. those EJ20 STi engines are pretty spectacular and the 6 speed is certainly worth the fee they're charging. I wouldn't mind throwing one in an old impreza wagon with bad paint... can we say sleeper?

hey
the STi engine is far from the same as the US wrx motor. bigger ic, bigger turbo, bigger injectors, lighter stronger pistons and valves, and a whole slew of other parts. the block might be one of the only similarities.
the STi engine is made for higher horsepower. when car man. make an engine, they build it to withstan higher hp ratings than what the motor is going to be sold at. this insures a small amount of reliability, especially in the US where people beat the hell outta their cars. not to mention they know fully well that people are going to mod the crap out of the motor, especially cars like the wrx, honda si's, etc. with that in mind, the US rex is slated at 227 hp, but seems to easily handle up to 300 crank hp without too much reliability. the STi motor is said to have 280(proly higher really) and could probably handle the same increase the US rex motor can (in terms of percentages, not just in size).
now the "new" 2.5 is a totally different beast. it is starting even higher than the *** spec 2.0 hp and torque wise, but it will be a while before we all know what the limits of that motor will be. it will obviously be more than a 2.5 from a 2.5 rs with a turbo slapped on it. only time will tell...
anyway, sorry for the ramblings, but just wanted to make a few things clear...

Thanks STI4ME. That was what I thought. Only the STi motors get the semi-closed deck, and none of them are fully closed.
So, rebutle beaverboy's earlier comment the STi motors are a superior motor to the USDM WRX 2.0l, More than just bigger turbos and intercoolers.

Sorry, I should have looked that one up first. I thought I'd seen pics of closed EJ20s... but apparently not.

The EJ20 STi motors are superior to the USDM WRX motors, but are very closely related (same engine, different build).
Anyway, the point I was trying to illustrate was that the 2.0L STi motors shown on that page are not the new 2.5L STi motors that will be out soon, which was indicated by him posting in the "STi Countdown forum designated for the upcoming 2.5L STi.

Hey, no sweat or anything like that. Just trying to make sure evry body was clear and on the same page. And you are right. The motors they are selling are the EJ20's. I wouldn't expect to find 2.5 STi motors on the market for a while.Atleast until you car buy a car with one in it.
