I would never buy an STi for an 18 yr/old with at best 2 years of road time underhis belt. Okay, so maybe these kids are kart racers or live on farms and have been 'driving' since they were past toddler stage but otherwise...forget it.
Also, as a parent I would be most focused on junior making it out of school. Not whether he/she has a good car to drive. Oh, and the bit about it still being nice after you graduate...LMFAO.
Lets see how it looks after just one year of pizza runs, club runs, beer runs, drug runs, booty call runs, and all manner of non-school related trips.
Man these kids are great.
They have a sucessful career in politics and/or sales ahead of them if they can pull this off.
I feel like a schmuck.
Maybe I should call my parents and hold an STi beg-a-thon.
Oh wait, I gotta register for classes first...

Sorry if my parents are rich, god damn. After another semester or two my college is going to be free (tuition at least) only because my mom got a job at the university and took a pay cut just because I would get free college, and my brother also if he decides to go to UMCP. Including the price of my car and the money I've got to pay as part of the deal with my parents, I'm effectively paying for half of the car. If I weren't willing to pay for part of the car, it would've been a mazda 6 for me so don't ***** about me getting an STi just because your parents didn't have cash when you were 18. The only reason they're doing it is because I'm paying for half of it, and the free college.

You took me wrong.
I'm not hating on your parents (or you) for being able to send you to school. Thats actually commendable especially in todays consumer economy of spend now save never then whine about it when my kid turns 16 and wonder where all the financial aid has gone.
Nor am I mad you'll have a car, thats cool too.
We all can't ride bikes and busses.

No I was being just a bit wry in my commentary (the part about road trips, and careers in politics or sales) though as a parent albeit new (6mo old) I was also seriously questioning the wisdom in such a high HP vehicle being in the hands of a relatively inexperienced driver of such a young age.
That your parents have the means is quite cool by me.
In fact my kid will most likely be in the same boat as yourself when her time comes around. Why? Well I do okay now and unlike most choose to put off having kids untill I could afford them. As such I put the cash I was going to use ($30K) to buy an M5 last year (had been saving & waiting for 3 years) into several high gain/high risk investments ('529' plans and such) for use toward my daughters schooling when it becomes necessary down the road.
As for me, old pop had to readjust and shoot for a toy a little less costly....STi.
But I can tell you having been an 18 yr/old male not so long ago that I would never ever get my kid a 300HP vehicle...not unless they were in the Juniors for NASCAR or some other motorsport. But defintiely not for use on the street and commuting to school.
Then again, I'm not there yet.
Maybe baby will flash those big brownies at me and say 'pretty please' as super sensible daddy caves and crumbles like my mothers box cake. Who knows....but I doubt it.

So kudos to you for pulling of a most excellent deal by anyones account. Just please remember not to street race and drive sensibly. I'd hate to hear about you on 'Fox5 at 10' as yet another bad story about local street racing.
Oh, and BTW congrats on your admission to UMCP...I'm an alumini from '92. Cool! And if you can go for a super discount too, thats all the better. Myself and I suspect many others here would have given a left nut at 18 to be in your current situation.
You got it made in the shade kid. Just kick back and drink some lemonade as you await your dealers phone call.
What's your intended major?
And don't say Poli-Sci...
