I'm paying for a portion of the car, both with the sale of my car (1968 Camaro SS) and with the earnings from my summer job. The parents are picking up the rest of the tab, but also because they wanted a nice, new car for me so when I'm out of college in a few years I'll have a nice ride that I can keep, and also something for my brother to drive once he gets his license. They don't want us cruising around in my moms new 04 Porsche Cayenne S racking up the miles when they will be keeping it for a long time.

I'm 53 now.
Have a 02 WRX Sedan.
The real question is how old will I be when/if I can get a STi.
Well, I'm still 53 and have a silver/silver STi. Gotta tell ya, I wish I had my 02 WRX and my $17k back. The STi is swell, just not $17 thou better then my WRX. imho

39....for another month.
I hope to have it this month, but who knows? I had a real cluster "explitive deleted" experience with the Suby dealer yesterday. I get a call from a dealer saying they have the car and do I want it. I say yes and he says he will call me back. They then sold it to someone else before calling me back. There is a lot more detail to this situation{and it is worse} but I am going to keep my mouth shut for now. It is safe to say that I was not happy and I am currently looking at other options.
I sold the GTP today......sigh....I really liked that car. I am driving wifeys rsx type s until I get a new ride.

Yeah, what he said! ^^
I would never buy an STi for an 18 yr/old with at best 2 years of road time underhis belt. Okay, so maybe these kids are kart racers or live on farms and have been 'driving' since they were past toddler stage but otherwise...forget it.
Also, as a parent I would be most focused on junior making it out of school. Not whether he/she has a good car to drive. Oh, and the bit about it still being nice after you graduate...LMFAO.
Lets see how it looks after just one year of pizza runs, club runs, beer runs, drug runs, booty call runs, and all manner of non-school related trips.
Man these kids are great.
They have a sucessful career in politics and/or sales ahead of them if they can pull this off.
I feel like a schmuck.
Maybe I should call my parents and hold an STi beg-a-thon.
Oh wait, I gotta register for classes first...

I'm getting this car not only to have an awesome, fast, fun and practical car for many years to come, but to also finally fully establish my credit so i don't run into any problems when i'm ready to buy a house or real estate. It may be a "dumb" investment in some people's eyes but the way i see it, it'll actually help me in the long run.
