Sti 2004 2.5!!!!!!

than why is everyone building 2.4-2.5l motors? that is where the power is. and we are not getting a v-8. just a half a liter more. gas milage is not going to suffer that much. if it doers it os only due to a driver with a lead foot.
i highly dought Subaru would max a motor out a 300hp. that is stupid engineering. just as any other Sti motor, it will be beefed up where it needs to be, and be a stronger motor period than the 2.0. mod for mod, the 2.5 will make more power. you have to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. not apples to oranges. if you are going to dump $5k into a built ej20, i am willing to bet the ej25 will still make more power if you dump the same $5k into it.
i can understand you logic, but i really don't think it applies to this motor, and where subaru is going with the car.

Besides all that.. Isn't the point of huge power from a 2.0L engine all about racing your local Mustang to the gas station and leaving him behind because you don't need to stop? IMHO it's more impressive to pull more power out of lower displacement. I laugh like a giddy school girl when someone says "Only a 2.0L engine?".

2.0s are still going to be used overseas most likely because some countries (such as Japan) base the the car excise in part on engine displacement. That's why Japanese car makers have had spent so much effort making small engines produce big power.
Besides, what are the homologation rules for WRC anyway? I don't see many 2.0T AWD Hyundai Accents tearing up the streets...

By putting in the 2.5 liter engine into the STI it give Subaru a chance to really up the anti against the EVO. Even the real EVO VII doesn't have as much power as the new STI will. Plus Subaru's plan is to turbocharge the 2.5 in the forester as well. This just made sense.

The 2.5 has always lacked serious performance attention, with the 2.0 being a much better designed and built engine. Sure it makes sense that Subaru would get around to make the 2.5 more "turbo-friendly".. But have they out-done the work on the 2.0 block?
We still have people asking what's stopping Subaru from using the 2.0 in the US.. It's the emissions.. you cannot get 300 HP out of a 2.0 without breaking emmisions rules. Rather than sell a weaker car to the US, they had to go with a new and improved 2.5.
It makes sense, but I didn't know that there was a 2.0l limit to rally cars.. Does this mean that North American 2004 STi cars are not going to be allowed in pro rally?

US Pro-Rally is not FIA sanctioned. It is governed by the SCCA so there are no problems using the 2.5 platform. I hope this helps some. Now keep in mind that there will be some FIA events this year in the US, I am not sure how they will look at the new car.

Personally, I like Subaru's idea of using a 2.5 instead of a 2.0. For anybody who has driven a WRX 2.0l turbo, how is the turbo-lag? That is the thing that I am curious about. If the turbo lag is noticeable, it tells me that the 2.0 doesn't have enough low end oomph. I think that the 2.5 will "fill in the blanks" nicely. With the AVCS on there, I am also hoping for high-end as well.
I'm gonna stand in line now and wait for one before they start marking up the price. Anybody in the SF bay talk to any dealers to get quotes? I have been hearing anything from 32k MSRP to 35k with the markup on MSRP.

Sorry for the double, but since I just saw the above, I had to comment. Supras in the JGTC (Japan Grand Touring Championship) use 4 cyl- engines intead of 6s and they still won this years championship against 6cyl Skylines, and 6cyl NSXs (though the NSXs are their rivals of late). They do use a weight "penalty" system which gives a greater advantage to cars that utilize HP:weight ratio better and the Supra has a 4cyl engine that is shoved back towards the driver.
