650+ hp? On a JGTC car? On the JGTC website, it says for the output "over 450PS". That is ~447Bhp. Would they understate their Hp rating by 200hp? doubt it. At most I'd say ~500Hp. Getting 600hp from a 4 cyl is pushing it big time. They are sqeezing the last ounce of power out of that thing as it is.
Also, you're making sense about the layout designations.. I usually hear those FMR and RMR as just MR. Like the MR-2. That is a rear-mid layout with rear drive. The ones with the engines in the front have always been referred to as "F-somethings" no matter what car I have seen. Which production car out right now has a FMR designation? The Stis, Imprezas, Spec-Cs, blitzens, B4s, etc are officially called (in terms of layout) a front engine car.

thx for the correction it's 470+
around 600 w/o restriction maybe..
many manufacture don't label their cars as FMR
350 Z is using that platform..
Shelby is too.. that new cobra.
Viper prolly too, need to confirm.
just look at where the engine is placed relative to the front axle.
there is nothing wrong calling them Front engine.. as their are front engines.. (in front of the driver anyway).
but diggin into details there is a huge difference..

Does the new 2.5 STi for North America have "cold-forged pistons & rods" and a "closed block design?"
I only ask because..... Um... well... because... ummm, well ... Everyone knows people will try to get even more performance out of the NA STi 2.5 engine. The emissions issue sounds like a good reason for the 2.5... Still it's kinda sacrilege, because the WRX and the Euro Sti are designed for homologation for group "N" Rally so the NA STi would in fact be illegal in Rally... even the WRC!
The JDM/Euro Aussie STi 2.0 has a "closed block design" and "cold-forged pistons & rods"
Well Cheers?
I don?t need a 300 hp car anyway... I'm too heavy footed already with 225!
But that six speed and a STi clutch sure would be nice
