Limited Production ??
How limited is the STi, the news on the EVO is that they will build as many as they can sell and its not a limited vehicle...so dealers shouldnt have an issue with supply meeting demand after a few weeks/months.
I wonder, is the STi will be like that?? If i wanted an Evo Id wait a couple months when they have 5-10 on the lot and offer a bit over invoice...

limited
I heard a lot less than that. I am not sure of a specific, but I think a lot of people have there heads in the clouds putting down payments on future STi's. I bet not even 1% of the peopl who put a deposit on an STi is going to get one. Good luck guys... ha.

hey
my dealer was told 900 units in the 1st allocation. spread evenly, that is 3 per dealer. he was also told 1 allocation = 1 year. he said they have 9 people on the waiting list, and that is considered a 2 year list :O that seems crazy, but who knows. he wasnt clear on many of the other detalils we already know, so who knows what subaru is telling them.
he did say that subaru DID NOT call it a limited production car. my bet is by next year they will be up to 4-5k units.
josh

I don't see why they would have a LIMITED production unless they were physically unable to make more cars... Seems like bad business making less of something than you know you can sell.

Remember the WRX was limited to 10,000 for the first year, but some how that grew to over 36,000 for the first year. The only thing that will be limited is how many they can fit on each truck / ship. I agree with the statement above about dealers knowing jack...... We as consumers know more than they do about the cars and if there are things they know that we don't know they won't tell us because they were told not to. That is still a pretty far stretch though.

Yeah, but you guys are forgetting the STi, AFAIK, has never been produced at the same numbers as the other cars. While it may not be a "limited production" car like say the BMW Z8, it is definately a low production car like the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra.
Sure, Ford could sell more Cobras than the few thousand or so a year they make but that's not the point. The point of the car is to be a flagship. Most of the people will opt to buy a Mustang GT or even standard Mustang. But having the Cobra in the lineup makes the Mustang more appealing to a buyer, knowing the there's a "trim" level of the car that offers nearly 400hp.
The same works for the STi. The STi is more than just a "trim" level, like the SVT. It's a specialty division of Subaru and is not made to make mass production numbers. It's made to make a super version of the standard Subaru cars and use them for (A) research for Subaru to learn more about performance (and some of the things that STi learns will make it to normal Subaru line cars) and (B) publicity so magazines can run articles about sub-5 second 0-60 subarus and 12-second 1/4 mile Subarus. But the average Subaru customer is going to opt for the more affordable WRX or the easily affordable RS (like I did originally).
Yes, Subuaru will most likely up the production numbers some but it will never be anywhere near the 10,000s. Yes, they could sell 10,000 Impreza WRX STi's but that's not Subaru's point. I can guarantee you that with the STi, their sales of WRXs and RSs will substantially increase (which are more profitable cars anyway) and that is the point.

I think it will only be a lower production car just because there is not a huge market that buys the STi, not because they don't or cannot make them...much like the M3's, Z06's, ect... they make less of them because there are more people out there how don't know anything about performance, options or anything like that. They want a BMW (330, 325 ect), Corvette (Convertable with auto trans) , Lexus (with flat leather seats and triptronic trans) and cars as like, only because of what the name is. Ask them what they can do and maybe they can spurt out a couple stats, but that's only what the dealers told them to make them feel even bigger in the pants (which they probably need). But those of us for the most part, in this forum are cool with knowledge of cars, what the highs and lows are as well as if it is worth the cash for the performance we are getting. We are amoung the few, the rare, the out numbered, and I like it! Anyways, they would make 40,000 of them if there was 40,000 people out there who wanted the STi.
