I dunno man, sounds kinda fishy that they're already telling dealers the allotments. Especially since the flood of orders/cancellations has yet to take place when they announce the MSRP. Sounds too risky to speculate before then.
I get the strangest feeling that Subaru is gonna open the flood gates on production, I think they've been sand-bagging the numbers so far. They may be planning on 4000-5000 now, but I think that will change once all the orders come in. The Sti is STILL a WRX, it just has some bolt-on parts. Don't be surprised if they shift production of the 30,000 WRXs into more Sti's. I see it as they can't risk stiffing those (like me) that already have their orders in. We are the die-hard fans that placed our orders before we even know what the dang thing costs!! If they bend us over, there will be a lot of customer loss. I, for one, will probably buy a 350Z if I don't get my Sti by fall. And I'm sure others will settle for the Mitsu EVO VIII...which would be bad for Subaru.
Someone said there were 600 Subaru dealers nationwide. If they only produce 5000 units, there will be hell to pay if Mitsu ups the ante on the EVO next year. Subaru then risks their market share if they cause a mass-shift to a competitor's car that ISN'T production limited.
I hate to say it, but this one is still too early to call. Once the numbers/options come out, then I could see dealers getting the allotment numbers.

With anticipated dealer mark-ups (certainly out West), I reckon some people will be lucky to find one for less than $40k this side of Xmas.

I like that $31.5k estimate.

RichiQY, no DMV fees here. Just registration/plates. LanceK has it right, we sure don't get glass roads to drive on. Florida's the same way, mostly anyhow. I love going home for x-mas.

It's not that high. In California, to figure your "out the door" cost, add 10% to the price of the car. It's actually slightly less (somewhere just above 9%) but close enough to give you a worst-case number.
So if the car is MSRP at $32k (and you're lucky enough to actually get one for that price) then expect to be out the door for $32,000 + $3,200 = $35,200.
As I said it's close to 9% in reality, so for a $32k MSRP car, expect just about $35,000, maybe a touch over.
Having just gone through two purchases (no, not for myself...not that lucky) I have that 10% number down

It may go up soon but it's less than 10% now. 8.x% tax??? I'm only paying 7.5% or whatever it is. Reg+Lisc is about 2%.
I just went through a car purchase last week and we tried to figure out the "out the door" cost and I said "just add 10%" and the salesman acknowledged that trick but said it comes in a tad high, which it did. The real number is like 9.4% or something
Either way... 10% is good for round numbers.
