Info from VanBortel
A lady called me today and was double-checking the list to make sure everyone was still interested.
She said the rep was in and confirmed an allotment of 10 this year, 2 in June.
They called to see if people would still be interested if the price ended up being 33 and if you were locked on a color.
I'm just posting this for ya'll. I'm on a few lists, so i'm not trying to build hype.... but found this info interesting.

Van Bortel...a unique situation ?
No need to panic (possibly).......I think the situation at Van Bortel may be pretty unique i.e they have a very big waiting list (upwards of 53 people) and their allocation for '03 looks to be around 10 STis.
They are basically checking to see if everyone on their list is still interested.
However, the one question they kept asking me was "will you accept any color ?".
I think it has been mentioned in other threads on this board that you can tell them the color combo that you would prefer, but they may, or may not, be able to offer this to you in their first year's allocation i.e. if everybody asks for blue with gold wheels and only 5 out of the 10 cars are specced that way, you may have to either accept a different color combo or you wait (possibly 'til next year's allocation if you're dead set on getting the exact same spec that you really want). Similarly if you order a relatively "unpopular" combo (e.g. white with gold wheels, say ??) and they're not producing many like that for the US market, you may also have to wait longer or accept something else.
So, bottom line is, you may/may not get the exact car you want, when you want it, even if you're high (on top) of the list......it all depends what the dealer is allocated........unless you're prepared to wait it out.

Van Bortel is usually #1 or #2 as far as sales per yer, so what concerns me is that if they get only ten this year, other dealers may only get 2 or 3.
point - make sure you are #1 on a list somewhere.

Sounds Grim!
I'm like number 60 on the Van Bortel list so I guess I'm screwed?!
I'm number 1 on my local dealer list and they called me yesterday and said "What color do you like because we are going to TRY and put an order in the system but don't know if it will take it". But we haven't even spoken about price so don't know.
I just bought a C4-S so I might not take the car anyway...

hey
i got a call from my dealer here in cali, and they asked the same questions, minus the price part. wanted my contactinfo etc.
33k is a bit high for me though. if that is the case, than I will be going for the EVO, or an old school project GF8, or a plain wrx project car. i hope it is a bit less.

I too am on the list at VB. Haven't received a call yet though.
VB will be selling the STi at invoice + $400, and I'd venture to say that MSRP is at least invoice + $1500 if not more, so $33k may be on the cheap side of the national average for price.
Did they say "around 33k" because of options, or because they still aren't sure what the pricing will be? Does that number include tax?

Any MSRP (V.B.) quoted would not include State taxes....so add on another 8% for NY taxes = $35,640 + delivery ($500 ??) and you're at around $36,000.
Maybe a $33k MSRP would include the BBS forged rims and large rear wing.....it's a possibility that you may be able to get cheaper JDM spec wheels + smaller wing as a lower-cost option.....but who knows ??
Van Bortel originally told me (in January) that the price would be between $31k and $32k, BUT they didn'y know whether that was invoice or MSRP......if they're now gauging customer interest based on a $33k price, then the original price estimate was probably invoice and the current $33k sounds like MSRP.
Let's just sit tight and wait for SOA official pricing and standard specs/options packages.
If you can get on a waiting list without having to pay a deposit, then all this doesn't really matter much....if you can't afford it when the prices are announced, just withdraw from the list. If you're paying a non-refundable deposit (based on an unknown MSRP) to get on a waiting list, not knowing whether you can afford it or not, then you're taking a gamble.
Ask yourself this...........if the STi costs somewhere between $34-$36,000 to drive off the lot (at MSRP, with no dealer mark up and no options added) can you afford it ?? That price estimate will be in the ballpark, I reckon.........do your math based on this and see what your options are.

Yes, my order's with V.B. and I've factored that in.......$31.5k invoice (estimate) + $400 (their mark-up) = $31.9 + 8% NY tax = $34,452 + ~$500 delivery = $35,000 out-the-door.........give or take a few $$.
With anticipated dealer mark-ups (certainly out West), I reckon some people will be lucky to find one for less than $40k this side of Xmas.
