Is Everyone Forgetting EVO's Tires???

Ok, cool, thanks for the tire responses, that's reassuring. The tires I've seen for my T/A and my Lightning were pretty pricey, and since the Evo and STi tires were even more of a race compound and tread I figured they would be even mroe expensive.
My '02 WRX Wagon has some Potenzas on it right now that are fine for me for commuting. I wouldn't use them on an STi or Evo of course, but something close to that level of ride/comfort would be acceptable.

Gotta get some rims and tires...
I am already starting the process of picking my fall/winter tire combo. My mustang has 17x9 rims and 270/40 Firestones that ran 202 each. looking for a better price for pseudo all seasons. Any ideas? This STi will be a commuter car and weekend fun car so all out performance is not needed.

If I were an STI owner i'd probably get some Falken Azenis's after the stock tires died off. Probably cost alot less, and would still be gripper and have about the same rain capability
S03's, KDW's, Khumo MX's, and even Victoracers would be viable options as replacements, with the S03's probably being the best "all around" tire of those... I would definatly go with dedicated snow/all season tires on a seperate set of innexpensive rims if you do plan on driving it alot during inclement weather conditions.

I went from Kumho 712's to Yokohama AS 100 recently on recommendation from my guy (the asst manager) at the local Discount Tire.
I have no idea how they compare to the STi or Evo stock rubber, but the Yoko's are absolutely amazing, especially considering the price.
I'd say the Kumho's might have SLIGHTLY more raw grip, but the Yokos are tenacious, very quiet in comparison, and the ride is much more refined, with more feedback. The car rides much better, and much quieter. The handling is also much more predictable. Can't say enough good about these tires, and they were only about $110 a corner! We like them so much, we are putting them on my wife's BMW 528iAT (5 series wagon).
FYI, my tire size is 225/45 17"
