Engine Breakin up at high boost or revs
I have been having a problem with my subaru back firing and breaking up when I excelerate over 11 - 14 lbs. It seems like the firing dies and regains when I release the pedal. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I suggest that you post your question in a WRX forum, not the STi forum.
I also suggest that you return your 96 WRX to the dealer as it must be a very early prototype for the first WRXs sold as 2002 models.

i dont know much about the earlier computers. if its like the new ones, the only advice i can offer is that maybe it is sensing knock at that much boost due to lean conditions, and is retarding the timing to save the motor from detonation. you may want to take it to a dealer and ask them to have a look at it.

Thanks for the info, I have a fuel flow meter and it is showing just about right at all times. I would be delighted if we did have a dealer to run to but unfortunately we dont. For those of you that didnt know my friend has a 97 STI order japan direct so It has been out for some time here in the caribbean. It has a T3/T4 Turbo with aftermarket down pipe and a stroker kit to convert it from a 2.2L to a 2.5L available from Rigalli Australia. We have not tested the quarter mile with the stroker yet, however we were in the high 11's before.
My apologies, my car is an STI version 1
