Do you really need to break the car in?

I pretty much keep my RPMs below 4k. But every now and then, i will exceed that a little bit. Maybe 5k-5.5k, it won't hurt your engine one bit. Its not a rule written in stone that if you take your new engine past 4k, its gonna hurt it. Its actually better if you vary the RPMs often and an occassional 6K hit won't damage anything.

Why is no one worried about the rest of the car? Transmissions, brakes, steering: all of these parts need to "work in", to seat and seal properly. My WRZ now has 10K miles and I am just at the point of long high speed runs (when I can find the space) and the occassional fun of blowing away some teenager in a low whee Civic with an ugly sounding muffler. ps: I am well past voting age: my first car was a highly modified (are you ready?) Packard 120 of about 1940 vintage. There are time when I wish I still had that car, but junked it after about 65K. That was about all you could get, driving the way I did.
