Bad news for my STI
Happens to every new car I have. Just out for a Sunday drive and I'm sitting at a red light sipping my Vanilla coke and having a smile when all of a sudden coke goes flying everywhere and my STI jumps forward about two feet as this Ford Escort station wagon smashes into the back of me. Brembo brakes stopped the two cars way fast though. STI hardly moved. Freakin Coke everywhere. Best part is the guy driving the Ford was uninsured. Guess I pick this one up.

What's the damage on your car? Your insurance should cover it. You'll lose the deductable. You should beat the living **** out of the other guy. I had that happen to me a while back on my old car. Some uninsured Hippie smashed my vehicle making the resale value plummet. He also had no insurance.
There should be a place where we can drag these people and beat the living crap out of them.

Got the estimate done today. only $541, however I priced doing the thing myself and it was going to cost me $625 just to have the bumper cover bought and painted. Good news is that the STI holds up real well. The guy must have been going about 15mph and barely ****ed up the STI. I'll see what it looks like after I get the bumper cover off and see if there's any more damage underneath.

Diet Vanilla Pepsi trumps Diet Vanilla Coke, but they are both great soft drinks. I think they really finally found a new product that is going to stick. Unlike Pepsi Blue!

my sentiments exactly..... im gonna start breaking necks if that happens to me
make sure they check the stuff behind the bumper cover, like the foam.
that might fail, and fail badly in your (cross your fingers...) next accident.
and yes, sue the guy in civil court.
doesnt WA have a law requiring everyone to drive with insurance????

Ya washington has a law requiring insurance. Every state does now. The foam behind the bumper cover's f**ked but that will be replaced. And ya I had a "little talk" with the company that's going to do the repairs.
As for the guy that hit me...he was a Mexican that barely spoke English, But the reason I didn't really get angry was because I could see this guy knew he was screwed and I got a little sympathetic. My car wasn't damaged to the point that it's never going to be the same and I wasn't hurt so there really wasn't any reason to trip. I'm in the military and to be honest, there's only one type of person I take my aggression out on and I don't even bother with it in this country. I brought the pain to them. I get mad over more serious reasons

that's good that you have some sympathy. i don't own a subaru, yet, but when i drive my stick shift i usually don't hold the brakes in at the red light. i leave it in neutral. after that i usually look in the rearview mirror. if i see a car pulling up behind me, i press the brake until the other car is perfectly "still" behind me, then i let go of the brake as well. i guess those brembo's are to be praised. good luck with everything.

The only people who drive around with no insurance are broke & broken people. You can't squeeze blood from a rock.
If the guy had any money he wouldn't be pushing an Escort with no insurance. Also, it costs money to sue. Legal & court fees add up quickly and at best you can strike a deal to to give your attorney 1/3 but even still you are on the hook for court fees with the hope that you might receover these fees from the defendant.
Suing someone is not as easy as folks think. There is no free lunch. I've been there & done that, twice.
J-Rex - I'm sorry to hear about your wreck.
Who cares about the car as it can be repaired. Lets hope & pray that you are okay and will have no latent medical problems/pains. Thats whats most important.
BTW, kudos to you for not going postal on the guy and keeping your cool. Regardless of his background (Hispanic / Mexican national) this is probably as huge a nightmare for him as it is for you. Try to work out something with him in an amicable way to have him compensate you directly as obviously insurance is out of the question. If he won't do that or gets evasive ("Me no speakee English") then just leave it to the boys in blue to take care of, be sure to show them your MIL ID as they'll give dude exta special care & attention to boot. <pun intended>
Best of luck man!
