which mag are you talking about.. seriously... if i see this mag and it shows the EVO beating the STi.. ill laugh my *** off.
the STi is SUBARU's Flagship, manufactured in JAPAN and modified in the united states or whatever.. the STi is japanese also
What does this have to do with anything? I'm getting a freeze headache.
WRX outperforms mistubishi lancer
subaru is always on top of the game jus accept it and appreciate ur evo while still facing the facts that the STi is the ownage of AWD
Ok, deep breaths. You've never driven or seen an STi, haven't read any of the mag articles about the Evo vs. STi, you are pretty sure they are made in Japan or the United States or whatever, and Subaru has AWD. Hrmmm...well, okay, sounds like the STi is the clear winner to me too then.
SUBURUZ R L33T D00D!!!!! AWD KiKz EVO AZZ 4EvAh!!!
Heh, just joshing with ya man, but sheesh, your logic and STi fanaticism is just crazy!

here you go: take a read of this. it's the mitsubishi Evolution VIII write-up, which the US version is quite similar besides the 6-speed and super AYC.

The press car isn't the same as a dealer car...
plain and simple.
Evo from the lot= 0-60 5.1 seconds; 1/4 mile 14.0 seconds
Now, those number look like a car that makes 190hp to the ground... when compared to a WRX, which tipically makes 160 hp to the ground, it makes sense.
Wrx is a 5.4 to 60, 1/4 mile in about 14.4... these seems the averages, for stock.
An evo that can do 4.7 to 60 and 1/4 mile in 13.0xx only tells me that the Press car is different than a lot car.
what do you guys think?

I believe that the Evo is capable of mid/high 13s bone stock. Here is a link to a thread in a EvolutionM.net where a guy ran his stock Evo against "a Cobra".
http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthr...threadid=22887
The Evo timeslip is on the left (13.46 at 98mph), and his numbers seem reasonable. However, the Cobra's trap speed and time looks pathetic at the 1/8 and 1/4 mile marks (but 60' looked good), so something happened to the Cobra and/or driver half way down the track (missed 2-3 shift, got out of the gas, something).
I've read the threads for the guy who ran 13.185 in a supposedly bone stock Evo. I'll believe it I guess (especially since I have no way to disprove it), but that seems very out of character compared to most other Evo times I've read about, though. I'd like to see some more stock Evo timeslips myself.

About the guy who ran 13.185. Why do you say "I'll believe it I guess" when there's a video of the guy doing a 13.2 and he posted his timeslip of the 13.185? what else do you need?
If you want to see timeslips then do a search at evolutionm.net.

Autoweek = 14.0
Motorweek=13.8
Car and Driver = 13.6
SportsCompactMag=13.6
Road and Track = 13.4 and 13.8
Average = 13.72
Add MortorTrends (bogus) 13.08 and you
still get an average of 13.64
Does that answer your question?

Thanks Gohan, you beat me to the response.
I say this because I have no way to disprove it and I'm NOT gonna call him a liar (how the hell would I know? I didn't personally see the run or inspect the car, and I don't know him anyway, I'm sure he's a great guy). If he says he ran 13.185 on a stock Evo (totally bone stock off the lot with ZERO modifications, not even higher octane fuel?), well, great...I believe him. I wish other people could do it more consistently.
But...that's pretty incredible and seems out of character with most other mag reports and forum posts of Evo owners (who typically run 13.5ish to 13.9ish). From what I read, he is a VERY skilled driver with tons of drag strip experience, and did I remember reading that he did some "drag racing" tricks that he thought would help (but still kept the car technically "stock")?
All I'm saying is, even if he and Derek Bell (Motor Trend) managed 13.1xx or under, that seems pretty remarkable compared to what most "average" Joe Blows (like you and me) will get in the quarter in the Evo. I don't have his years of drag racing experience, I don't know his tips and tricks, and I'm not willing to throw away my clutch/tranny to try and make it happen. Realistic Evo times seem to be about 13.5 to 13.9.

i have been through many forums... mainly car forums.. corolla ae86 and nissan 240sx... like many car communities on the web, i get extremely tired of "newbie" questions without thorough research. i also get tired of car bashing because of a review of a magazine or word of mouth... all without personally driving the vehicle. many opinions or statements here are done as "I think" or "I believe" with no understanding of what the debate is about.
of course we always have the forum members who only recommend the car subject of the forum... OPEN UP!!!... we are all car enthusiasts... there are many forums out there and were formed by car enthusiasts to bring us together to talk to each other and learn from each other. only online will we all start each of our relationships on neutral ground...
and of the cars... EVO is a damn good car... STi is a damn good car... breaking it down.. it targets the same car community... remember when we wish they would bring these cars here? .. now they do and we bash it??
and also, who really buy a car because of 0-60mph or 1/4 mile times? do he/she drive in a straight line all the time? and at WOT all the time? Passing power and time is more important to me.
also how a car handles in a car mag doesnt mean car enthusiasts is going to or can drive 10/10ths on the street... plus 30 extra hp does not make a driver drives better...it's in the hands and skill of the driver...
sometimes i am led to believe that many owners of WRX graduate from RICE ROCKET UNIVERSITY and WWE UNIVERSITY and feel the need to challenge fellow enthusiasts and make a fool out of him/herself...
if its a preference, fine.. but dont reply negatively of other's posts...
the STi is damn good, but personally, if i get the chance, i would go with the EVO, just for the fact that it is more of a enthusiast car with no electronic intervention such as drive by wire, AYC, TCS. the WRX is one of the last sports sedan around...with out the traction control and e-throttle...
i just want to get in and drive and have the satisfaction of just me driving without any aid..
sorry for rambling on....

Does everyone agree that boxer is better?
It seems to me that for same displacement same cylinder count, boxer engine will be heavier compared to inline. The reason is, IMHO, twice the amount of heads, twice the amount of camshafts.
And, poor stupid me always have the impression that weight is the enemy?
