Question 04sti crankcase vent elec conn?

It is a PCV diagnosis sensor. I was told by another board member that it will throw a P1491 (PCV vent problem). It was also suggested that 2 cans be used. One for the valve cover and one for the PCV. The one for the valve cover is easy. The one for the PCV sould be routed between the PCV and the sensor. Two cans sound like over kill to me. My plan is now to modify a can to have two input and two ouputs. Essentially two cans in one. I have not found a suitable can for this purpose yet. Or maybe if I can find two smaller cheape can and some fittings. I will probably have to fabricate my two can in one or two el-cheapo cans. If you come up with a suitable solution that dose not involve buying two $100 cans let me know.

cool i appreciate the response. i see your point in routing between the pcv and the sensor but im wondering then how much would flow to the catch can and how much would still make it to the intake hmmm confusing. or if u could put a t in the hose between the pcv and the sensor and then run it from there and t into the other hose thats for the covers maybe it would help catch some but not all but then again it might upset the sensor. if all else fails and future info comes available about the sti's various sensors. maybe if one could use an elec fix such as ones used to eliminate cels for exhausts could be somehow adapted to fool this sensor so we can run our catch cans and have a nice clean oil free intake. well ill keep looking and try to figure something out. if you do also let me know. thanks

I use a Perrin turbo intake{which does not have the pcv nipple}.

The factory nipple and pcv was dremeled off the factory turbo inlet and goes to a T where the valve vent oil joins and both run to the Perrin catch can. No CEL and I have been running this for two weeks. I have pictures on my web site.

Good luck!

Hey Hummer,

Thanks for the heads up on the intake and the catch can. Is the intake that you're useing particular to the STi or can I just order the one for the WRX? Where did you source it and how much? I was hoping that a catch can would be something like a $100 dollar endevor. But with the intake it looks like more like $120(can)+$300(intake)=$420. There is some extra/slight benifit to having the smooth intake. That's a nice looking compartment with everything done up in black. Did you notice any difference when you installed your grounding kit? Which kit is that? How much and where? Thanks again.

The Perrin turbo intake fits 2002 and newer WRX and STi's.
I got mine from MPJPerformance.com for $190.00 shipped. Their site lists it at 219.99. I would call them for the best price. They list stuff on NASIOC-Vendors for sale items. I got the can form Ninos for $120.00. http://www.ninosautoaccessories.com/index.php

I got the grounding kit from Kastles Korner. I notice a slight difference. The car idles much smoother now with the kit installed.

yeah thanks also hummer now i know i can run it that way i got one more question for ya. i still have the stock intake so you think it would be possible to block off the nipple on the intake and find something that fits the pvc connection where it used to run to the intake cause its my only intake for now and i really dont wanna dremel it. thanks again

I would leave it attached to to stock intake. Change it when you get an after market turbo intake that does not have the PCV nipple.

Hey Hummer,

Did you have any problems with the mounting location on your catch can. The reason I ask is: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=412748

These guys seem to be haveing some problems. Did you experience the same thing? I looked at you pics and your can seem to have plenty of clearence from the AC line. Did you install the can per the directions or did you do something else? Any input is appreciated.

Thanks.

No problems. It is a tight fit on the install. It would probably be easier if you took out the battery first, but it is not a requirement. I followed the instructions and you use a factory screw hole to attach the can.

They have changed the routing of that AC line on our cars. It now runs to the left and below the catch can and battery.

Be careful cutting the tubing. There was not much extra with my kit.
