actually if the sti came with the old oval lights I would probably have gotten the evo. Never liked the bugeyes that much but thats just me. I liked the new headlights and frt since the first pic I saw of them, they didn't have to really grow on me. Plus the new design looks sleeker and is probably more aerodynamic(no real had facts to back up that statement tho.
Neways I think this is a dumb topic to put into the sti forums and is just asking for flames. If you want peeps to agree with you, you're posting in the wrong forum. Try evolutionm.net see sti bashing threads there all the time, you'd fit right in

If the STi was still made with the bug eyes, there would be a 100% chance I would've boughten an evo. I think the 04 restyle is a beautiful job on a great car, but wrx before the 2004 model year is ugly as hell. Not that the evo looks that great, but I think it looks better than the pre-'04 wrx's.

Granted, I like the 04's style better too, but to say you'd buy an EVO instead just because of that. Blasphemy! Even if you don't like the first ReXs which I do actually, you can throw on some stuff to liven up the front end. I think the projectors do alot for it. Don't get me wrong the EVO's are pretty good, but I've had Mitsu's before and everyone I had needed a new top end at around 60 or 80 thousand miles, not to mention have you ever tried to do a clutch on a transverse AWD turbo. Forget that! I love my Suby, and I would have bought one regardless of what I thought of the headlights. Besides you can't see the headlights from the drivers seat and neither can anyone else since it's the fastest thing on the road this side of the Z06. Now for cryin' out loud just enjoy the drive. Peace

Actually I had a old galant beater back in the day and that car was very good to me. Got me to and from college cheaply and fairly reliably. The trans finally took a dump at 150k miles and I was not worth the money to fix. My galant was hardly a performance car but that thing took a lot of abuse b4 it died.
Neways judging the evo and sti performance wise its too close to call really. Therefore for me at least it came down to which car looked better to me.

I wish i could say something more about it but, 300 horses with 300 ft lbs of torque. I wish they would have stayed with the 2003 body style for just one more year and made the '03 an STI. They rounded out the car but squared off the unique headlights and they made the tail light wrap around the back. They also squared off the fog light covers . Sad isn't it ? submit any convo you have.
P.S. I am not trying to be mean to any of the '04 STI owners. Congrats you have a great car. It is in my opinion a horrific layout and if you don't agree tell me.

Styling, color, driving experience, prestige.....etc.....are all personal preference, there is really nothing to discuss about. If you like it, you like it, if you don't, you don't. There are no right or wrong.
There are tons of cars I think is ugly, the biggest POS, regardless of price. But do I go on all their forum and tell their owner their cars are ugly and ask them what they think of it, NO

Having read all the posts in this thread, I have two comments.
First, the originator of the thread was expressing an opinion about the STi. He has a perfect right both as to the opinion and the posting of it.
Second, there is no reason to insult him or her for stating an opinion.
The beauty of the Internet and these forums is that no one is compelled to read or answer or participate.
If the post is so off topic then the moderator will remove it.

I have never liked the design/look of the Impreza going back to the original release in '93.
The previous gen Impreza with the bug-eyes were especially hideous in my mind. The current 'Hammerhead' look I like as it reminds me of the pre-war Auto-Union racers from the front.
I like the sides okay (could be better at the rear 3/4) and the tailights are cool.
I'm liking my car alot.
No, alot lot.
Just my $0.02

2002 WRX vs 2004 STi
I always liked the look of my 2002 WRX. The bug eyes were a little close to a Neon's though... A friend of mine told me he liked the look of that car better than my 300ZX TT. Now that the 2004 STi is out, I truly like the look better. Anyone with an 02 or an 03 should happy since the redesign has made their look a low production 2 year run, very uncommon in today's auto business. Who knows, 20 years down the road, the 02/03 may be more of a collectors item... The 63 Corvette split window comes to mind.
Enjoy!

Enjoy!
